okay, I'm sold. I'd better get to work removing that other kidney now, that should just about cover the down payment... $173 is a terrible price to pay for space rogue.

I got my 1541U the other day. It is sooooooo incredibly AMAZING!!.

Finally a real 1541 substitute! Thank the C64 gods! :D

I'd like to get a 1541U but too pricey. I bought 64HDD in hopes for an easy APE like solution-gave up.

Anybody try Yoomp! with SIO2SD? The .ATR doesn't work but the .XEX almost works. It gets through the load screens but then I only hear the music with a black screen.

http://yoomp.atari.pl/index.htm

The Yoomp! executable is only PAL at the moment, so that's what will happen on NTSC hardware. :)

Okay, so Yoomp! 1.1 supports NTSC but it still doesn't work on SIO2SD for me (I bought a boxed copy of Yoomp!, it's so awesome!) it just loads forever. Does anyone else have it working on SIO2SD?

Make sure You're loading Yoomp! in normal SIO (no Ultraspeed). Yoomp! doesn't load with ultraspeed, because of CPU time-costing progress-bar and ball animations.

Well,

if you want ultraspeed, you can of course remove the intro (loading bar and ball animation)... I would not do it, because the intro is very nice, but if ultraspeed is a must have for you, its the only solution I guess... -Andreas Koch.

Some software don't like ultra speed. I know 2 ways:

1) If You have Qmeg Os 4.04 (turn of ultra speed by press N key)

If You don't have:

2) In setup sio2sd You Can change HS Index (press k4 key after turn on sio2sd and change hsindex (1-16)).

When I change it hsindex to 5 Yoomp loading correctly.

Today I rebooted after taking SD card to pc for a newly added ATR's, and I get this notice 'card init error'.

card init error

4F: $40(@) $0000

And my other Sd card is doing the same. Have I fried something. Reading the forum also and I believe that I have the version that does not require the diode on the SIO lines..

TIA

I am finally getting around to gathering the parts needed to build a version 2 and I have a couple of questions:

1. What should the load capacitance be for the 14.31818Mhz Crystal? is 20pf ok? I never understood the importance of load capacitance when choosing a crystal.

2. Can I use AVRprgWin.exe (found in atmel.zip from post #22) to flash the microcontroller the first time with the latest sio2sd_all.bin (from http://sio2sd.gucio.pl/index_en.html) or do I have to use the hex file included in the atmel.zip and upgrade from there?

3. What is JP3 used for from the schematics? Do I need to place a jumper to program the microcontroller?

Thanks in advance.

Ad1.

Capacitance is 22p

Ad2.

schematic for simply programmer Atmega32:

http://marcinprusisz.pl/atari/Atmel_Programmer.doc

software for them:

http://marcinprusisz.pl/atari/atmel.zip

or You Can use AVRSTUDIO and programer like this: http://www.allegro.pl/item519792714_nowosc...s_atmel_fv.html

(all signal You Can find on sio2sd board 6 pin -> JP2)

Ad3

JP3 is not used.

Commodore must do some crazy things in their disk drives.

The CBM disk drives are basically computers on their own. They have a 6502 CPU, RAM, ROM, IO and you can upload code to them. That's why it is not enough to replicated the bus protocol, but you have to emulate the entire drive.

Here's mine:

Very nice! Where can I get a casing like that, or something like it? I take it they're hard to find...

A 1030 modem case would look good, too. http://cgi.ebay.com/Atari-400-800-XL-Compu...%3A1%7C294%3A50

Here's another good candidate: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3DLVI%26ps%3D54

Finally got my composite cable today, so I hooked the 130XE up to the s-video in on the LG LCD TV, copied my 16MB hard disk ATR onto an SD card and put it in the SIO2SD, powered up and everything worked perfectly! The latest version of LW80 runs great on the real Atari with the SpartaDOS 4.17 cart. I may have to buy a flash cart so I can run one of the later versions. But the SIO2SD is a fantastic device. I can't wait to get even more stuff copied across from my old Atari disks (especially all my old Turbo Basic programs, including a font editor and database, and all the University assignments I wrote on the Atari - including my dissertation!).
