Cassidy Nolen #1 Posted March 8, 2005 Word. Question to all the NES-heads out there. I have a Multi-cart for GBA that has an NES emulator running a bunch of games. One of the games is a warehouse game where you have to arrange cases on a specific spot. If you move them wrong, you cant get behind them to move them somewhere else. Fantastic strategy game, and one of my fav's from that era to replay. I had never heard of it, but I think its called warehn-18 in English. Did this ever come out in the US? If so, what was it called? I think the fact I believe it to be a foreign only title makes it more interesting to me than it should be. I seriously have spent some time trying to get it all right, but its not easy. For some reason, the game boxboy comes to mind. Similar maybe? Never played it, though. Tempest #2 Posted March 8, 2005 Yeah it did, I had it. Box something. I know I had it. It has a few names depeneding on the system. Boxyboy Shove It, etc. Tempest
SS #3 Posted March 8, 2005 It sounds similar to Shove It for Genesis or Boxxle for GameBoy.
figgler #4 Posted March 8, 2005 I can't think of anything similar on NES - at least not released here in North America.. It does sound like Boxxle though, but that never came out for NES. Can you take a screen shot? I should check also, to see if I have it on a multi cart somewhere.
Cassidy Nolen #5 Posted March 8, 2005 Shove It looks similar. Boxxle is the right idea, but imagine it in full on Communist colors! Neither one is exact, as this was an almost homebrew attempt. Apparently, there is a level where you can design the layout yourself. I really think this might be a gem. I will try to get a screen shot up. If you read my "dont go to topsearch10.com spyware crap" post, you'll appreciate that I am still installing crap I need on the new OS. I hate spyware. Tempest #6 Posted March 8, 2005 Ok I was thinking of Boxxel for the GB. I dont think the NES had a box pushing game although alot of classic systems did under an odd name (Sokoban or something like that). Tempest
PaulEMoz #7 Posted March 8, 2005 I would have guessed Soko-Ban.
Stingray #8 Posted March 8, 2005 I would have guessed Soko-Ban. That's what it sounds like to me too. -S
Mayhem #9 Posted March 8, 2005 Yes, the proper name of the game is Soko-ban. Was originally published by Spectrum Holobyte in 1984 I believe, and has ended up being one of the most copied puzzle games ever.
Stingray #10 Posted March 8, 2005 I've never played it on a console, but I've got the Mac version around somewhere. -S
Jess Ragan #11 Posted March 8, 2005 Yeah, I think Sokoban was one of Spectrum Holobyte's International Gaming Series, along with Tetris. I don't know what other games were in this series, but they were all originally released for home computers. Sokoban never really caught on the way Tetris did (and when you experience the excruciatingly dull gameplay, you'll understand why), but it was nevertheless influential, inspiring the box shoving puzzles in role-playing and adventure games to this very day. I just wonder why all the pre-Tetris puzzle games for home consoles never caught on. Games like Zenji and Rock 'n Bolt both featured clever play mechanics, and are a lot of fun to play in their own right. Heck, even Ram It on the 2600 wasn't bad, even if it was a bit too simplistic for its own good. JR
