Question about game controller compatability??

Ok my atari joypad which is my fav controller doesnt work right with burgertime for some reason?? It works fine with every other game but when i play burgertime it wont move the little guy to the right??? The game works fine with any other controller and like i said the joypad works right with all other games so whats the deal??
