Draikar #1 Posted March 12, 2005 I seen here and another Atari page selling Clear Cartridges of new Atari 2600 games but what about producing clear Atari 2600 Body cases to drop an extra Atari in for a cool new look.
Ferris #2 Posted March 12, 2005 It would be awesome to see that in a 2600 jr design. However moldings cost tens of thousands of dollars to create. I'm frankly suprised they were able to create new casings as it is, its been great.
Clint Thompson #3 Posted March 12, 2005 Yea really... and personally I'd rather have a clear 7800 (now that would ROCK!)

Clint Thompson #5 Posted March 12, 2005 $350 was IT?!?! Your right.... that's bloody cheap!! (I'd been more then happy to pay $350 for one of those babies!)
Draikar #6 Posted March 12, 2005 I seen people sell clear body cases for the first PlayStation, just take the inside of your old gray PlayStation and put it into a new clear case... So why not one for Atari ?

SteveW #8 Posted March 12, 2005 As far as clear cartridges go, I have an idea for them. Especially for aquatic themed homebrews, like Seawolf. Have you guys seen those wave machines, like a clear rectangle with colored chemicals inside, that rock back and forth on a base, to simulate ocean waves? How about something like that - inside a cartridge? You'd have to seal off the cartridge board from the case. And for another idea, you could also fill the cases with glitter, and make snowglobe style carts! Sure, if they leak, they'll kill the cartridge's electronics and short out the 2600, causing an electrical fire, but still, it'd be so cool!

Dolt #11 Posted March 12, 2005 In the late 90s, I wrote about an outfit in San Francisco called BOLT (Bureau of Low Technology) that was holding all kinds of raves with videogame systems around for people to play on big screens as 'atomosphere' for the event, and stuff like that. If you do a google search you can still find bits and pieces about them. Anyway, one of their big plans was to do an art project where they'd make a run of working clear lucite Atari 2600s. AFAIK, they never did it, but I made 'em promise to sell me one if they did....

Rob Mitchell #13 Posted March 12, 2005 Yeah .. everyone thinks that a clear console would look cool .. like a clear Vectrex .. etc. That is until inevitably dust, dirt or bugs get into or on the thing and it looks dirty on the inside or out. These things are black for a reason .. a lighter color and they would look like crap after a few years. As an example look at your very own beige colored keyboards .. or a white desk telephone which I have sitting nearby. Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
Clint Thompson #14 Posted March 12, 2005 I was worried about this with my white iMac... but as I don't smoke and no one else is allowed to smoke in my house I don't have to worry about it... and it's still beauty white today!!
efdious #15 Posted March 15, 2005 Like this? That should be a Daily Show "Moment of Zen!" That's the best thing I've seen in about 3 weeks. -b
jeepnut24 #16 Posted March 15, 2005 Ive had a factory clear green xbox for almost a year now and dust hasn't been a problem other than on the outside. Looks pretty cool and I would love to see a blue tinted clear 2600 case. Or clear for that matter.
Ze_ro #17 Posted March 15, 2005 It might look good on a 2600 Jr, but there's really not much to see inside a 4/6-switch Atari... the guts of the system are housed in a big chunk of metal, so all that would really be visible would be the small board at the top that holds onto the switches and joystick ports. While we're talking about trendy, riced up consoles, where's the obligatory "Atari 2600 with blue LED power light"? --Zero
