firebug #1 Posted March 13, 2005 I recently acquired a Genesis 1 with RF switch and a couple of games. No power source though. I've read online that you can use a NES power source, and when I tried this, the Genny seems to power on (the LED lights up), but the screen shows nothing but a rolling grey screen. I've tried multiple games all with the same result. I've also got a SNES (with original RF switch and power source) that displays the exact same 'symptoms'. Is this something that can be easily fixed? Thanks much in advance!
christianscott27 #2 Posted March 13, 2005 your first order of business should be making sure your TV connection is proper - do other systems work with this RF set-up? eliminate that first. i have no idea what your set-up is like but every device present possible problems, especially VCRs and other devices, for best results go directly to an older TVs coax cable input, on channel 3 of course. second you may have dirty contacts, clean the brass colored contacts on your carts with alcohol and a q-tip, also clean the contacts inside the console, you can use a piece of cloth dabbed with alcohol wrapped around a thin credit card for this. gen and snes cart contacts are much fussier that atari in my experience, keep cleaning and try to make sure the cart is "seated" properly in the console. if its loose and leaning bact to front that can be the problem. the upside is that the consoles are pretty solid and its rare to find one that wont eventually work if you keep at it. firebug #3 Posted March 13, 2005 Alright. The RF switch works fine. I checked it with my NES. I'm going to clean the contacts of both consoles now. I think that's the most likely culprit for the SNES, because my other SNES works just fine with all the carts. Hopefully it will all be good.

[/quote']NO! PEOPLE, FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING GOOD, STOP TRYING TO REUSE NES POWER SUPPLIES! NES used an AC power brick. 99% of everythign else uses a DC brick. When you plug an AC brick into something expecting DC, Bad Things happen.
