Pete Rose is kicking my butt!

Recommended Posts

I've been playing Pete Rose BB recently and I'm getting better, but I'm still a big loser.

The last game I played was really close, until the late innings. I played the computer tight 3-3 the whole game, but in the 11th inning, the computer drove in 8 runs.

Anybody got any tips for not throwing so many homeruns and for hitting more of them myself?

You could always pay off one of Pete's gambling debts. At which point he will graciously allow you to win his game more often.

Can't give you much more help, haven't played it much after I finally found it at Cinciclassic. I keep playing 11-9 slugfesgts though.

Just like in real baseball, don't groove one over the center of the dish. Everytime I throw gas, it winds up over the 411 sign. Junk is king. Give the batter a steady diet of big sweeping breaking balls and off-speed stuff. Mix up inside and outside and they'll tend to hit a lot of them to first base and to right field, but your pitches will at least tend to stay in the park. If they are hitting everything you throw, intentionally walk a batter. The console version is a lot more fun than the emulation version. As Kevin Costner said, there's no crying in baseball.

Actually Utmav:

It was Tom Hanks who said that in the movie "A League of Their Own".

However, we understood what you meant all the same.

You're right--I was thinking it was part of his "long list of beliefs" speech but it wasn't. Thanks!

But more I think about it, that statement may not be true. Considering my beloved Rangers have done nothing but overdose on an already loaded offense without really upgrading their pitching, there may be a lot of sadness in Arlington this year.

Like the Pete Rose baseball game itself, lots of 11-9 games...
