Draikar #1 Posted March 19, 2005 A few years ago I got my Sega DreamCast, it was placed on a old shelf that had rotted and finally collapse a few days latter. My DreamCast was on the top shelf and had hit the side wall that was brick and floor kinda hard that it knocked out the power or reset button, I popped the button in and hooked the system back up. The system ran ok and played the CDs I had, anyway I put it on a better self and it sat there for about another year. I finally got some more games and tryed it out again. But this time I noticed a noise like a old disk drive noise, and games seem to run slow in the loading time. I think it did this before but with the fall it had I keep thinking maybe its doing it from that but I kinda remember it doing that when I first got it. I asked some one and they said some DreamCast systems are well known for that noise and the loading time was normal. Anyway I was thinking of this again now another year latter and I need to know, system was made in june 2000 and some say older ones make more noises I think. Am I paranoid ? I had a Nindendo GameCube drop but on a soft rug and only a foot from the ground, I keep thinking it was doing the same thing too but when I had it looked at the guy looked at me like I was crazy... Lost Monkey #2 Posted March 19, 2005 The Dreamcast is naturally pretty loud... ..but I am more concerned with the fact that you have rotten shelves in your house..?!?! Are they exposed to the elements? The loading time on DC games can be fast or slow.. I think it has more to do with the (planned) layout of the data on the disc than the drive of the DC.. for example, a highly detailed game like Soul Calibur loads up really quick with hardly any time between fights. Draikar #3 Posted March 19, 2005 The rotten shelves were in the basement that flooded a few times, It looked ok but from the move out of the basement may have made the shelves more weak too. I have new shelves now made of metal.
onkyo_emu #4 Posted March 19, 2005 My Dreamcast sounds like it's being choked to death and runs just fine. I wouldn't worry about it. And if it does fail, replacements aren't that hard to find. Got mine for 15 bucks.
