saturn questions

Recommended Posts

My genesis isnt working too good thses days so im going to pick up a saturn to play genesis games on it. First I would like to know if every genesis game works on the saturn. Also i'd like to know what are some of the good american saturn games? I'm sure i'd love to play radiant silvergun and the saturn version of symphony of the night but i'm not going to buy whatever converter you need for them.

very common misconception but (egads) the cartridge port on the saturn isn't for Genesis carts!

Genesis games don't work on the Saturn.  :ponder:

There are a few... Sonic , Sonic 2, Castle of Illusion and Quack Shot come to mind..(but they are all on Saturn collection discs... :P )

i always wondered about that, how was that pulled off, emulation or porting?

if its emulation, its amazing that the saturn did a better job than the dreamcast with genesis emulation (at least on official releases). in the mid 90's, Genesis emulation was still on the slow side even on PCs.

I never understood why every one thinks the saturn can play genesis games. I thought about it once and i mean the cartrige slot and genesis games arnt even the same shape.

Partial emulation, I think.

The Saturn uses a Genesis CPU as it's sound processor. So that can be run directly, and you only have to emulate the rest of the system.

Well I just put this in (its been a while!) and this Sonic Jam compilation is really a lot better than I remembered... I would be hard pressed to believe this wasn't emulated..

Those SEGA engineers sure knew how to program parallel processors. They must had brought all their expertise from their arcade systems.

what exactly was the saturn's cartridge port for? gamesharks?

that, memory cards, and extra RAM (though the US never had any games that took advantage of that)

There was a lot of scuttlebutt about the Saturn being backwards compatible a long time before it had come out, and I guess that the belief that it really is downwardly compatible is still floating around, even though there's absolutely no proof to that.

I thought some US games could use the RAM carts.

There were also ROM carts.
