Atari 2600 - Imagic Games Rare Yellow Package Release

Recommended Posts

Those sure do look like someone made those them selves, then are trying to say they are a rare package. I have never heard, nor seen that type of packaging before, but who knows, strange things seem to show up all the time.

 :? ;)

I've seen them a couple of times before -- they're legit. Simple single-colour, shrinkwrapped packages Activision used to dump excess stock as cheaply as possible while still being able to claim it was packaged.

Seeing as what it says aboyt activision's involvement, theres probably someone on this forum that knows the score about this. :)

If I had to take a guess I'd say these were probably the way Activision liquidated excess stock of Imagic's loose library shortly after they acquired it and before switching over to the black-box/blue-label releases. Seems like the cheapest and most effective way Activision could have done this -- simple shrinkwrapping on cardboard hang packs.

Seems like a reasonbale theory. I wonder if Ken Love knows more about these? I'll have to point him to this thread. :)

I love the scan of the back!

Well, if we didn't scan the backs (these probably came from Alex's collection at the time), people would have asked if there was anything on the back. So, not terribly exciting, but good to have for completeness' sake. :)

Point taken. Still makes me chuckle, though!

I picked up a couple games (all Activision and Imagic) at Woolco stores here in Canada before they were bought out by Walmart that came in simple packaging like that...

One was Starmaster - in a baggy with a cardboard fold-over stapling the bag shut.. (the same way Atari packaged it's Jaguar A/V cables)... and the other was Cosmic Commuter which came in a blister pack.. but without any instructions.

The Kmart by me used to have games in blister packs but it turns out they were just repackaging open box items.
