Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.

There was an announcer on the radio the other day that said people were digging in a landfill in New Mexico looking for ET copies. He made it sound like ET was rare and worth something. I told my mother it was one of the most common cartridges around.

Hard to believe since most people returned their copy of the game, and the rest didn't sell. That dude is right. It is the most UBER rare game EVA!! Get clue bradhig.

One of todays Yahoo headline stories: Million jars of peanut butter dumped in NM landfill. I kid you not. Which means that ET is going to have plenty of nutrients for the next million years, or our groups of excavators are going to be wading through a lot of peanut butter. Lol

I know, not the same landfill, but..... still funny.

Could any of it be candy shell chocolate covered?

About time for someone to remake a cheesy version of the original film, isn't it? Could even throw in some footage from "the dig" as a live-action portrayal of the game, looking for those elusive Reeses Pieces...

Well, they did a porn parody of the movie a couple years back....no, I've not seen it. :P Is that cheesy enough for you?

Well, the market price of ET has gone up over 800% in the last couple of years (from a base of about $.50). Maybe publicity from this dig thing could even double the value again... Of course, if they are able to recover and sell a load of ET carts, the bottom of this bull market could fall out, dooming us ET commodity traders...

I noticed that as well. E.T. gets like $2-$3 for a loose cart on ebay.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/04/xbox-has-landfill-dig-for-atari-games-approved/

Permission has been granted for a film crew to excavate a landfill suspected of containing millions of unsold Atari game cartridges.

The dig is searching for a cache of cartridges, including copies of Atari's utterly disastrous E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial adaptation as part of an original documentary for Xbox.

It was initially blocked as the New Mexico Environment Department requires digs of this nature to have an approved waste excavation plan. The original WEP was rejected in February for being too vague but the Alamogodo News reports that a new submission has been approved with the addition of some terms and conditions.

The approval letter asks that the Environmental Department be notified five working days prior to the start of the dig and that the waste hauling companies hired for the excavation be registered with the NMED.

The documentary is part of a series led by award-winning producers Jonathan and Simon Chinn. According to Xbox Entertainment Studios president Nancy Tellem: "These stories will expose how the digital revolution created a global democracy of information, entertainment, and commerce, and how it impacts our lives every day."

I am glad that this is finally going to get done. I hope that they find some Atari related stuff at least and not that it is completely void of anything of value. Somehow forever I get the feeling that they are not going to find much but then someone will claim that they are digging in the wrong place. Maybe they should get Indiana Jones to help them.

They would collect the built-up methane produced from the decomposing garbage underneath the ground. It would go into a methane collector which they could use for fuel....or they could burn it off if they didn't have any place to store it for future use.

I just realized something...

Since Microsoft is behind this dig, it will take longer than expected, and will be deemed "completed" once they publicize the exact location, purchase a shovel and buy a company that owns a copy of E.T.

I predict "The dig" 3.1 is when they will actually recover a buried cartridge.
