Zapper Problems

Recommended Posts

So, I bought a Zapper for my NES awhile ago. I used it once or twice (so I know the darn thing worked when I bought it). I put it away for awhile, plugged it back in and it now will not work. It won't respond at all to shooting it at Duck Hunt. Any ideas? Broken wire?

Dumb question but are you hooking it onto the right port? I always forget the NES needs a regualr controller in port 1 and the gun in 2. My SMS it just goes into 1 so I always mix it up.

That's what I thought originally, as my wife was the one that pointed out it didn't work...she wanted to show my niece Duck Hunt and they had it in port 1. But, I switched it, and it still doesn't work.

I thought about taking it apart and seeing if I can get a read on the wires to see if anything is getting from the system to the gun...but thought I'd see if there were other ideas first. Other wise, I may just hit the flea market in a few weeks!

After cleaning the Zapper's light receptor cover, try adjusting the contrast and brightness levels on your TV.

I cleaned the end, but it doesn't even shoot. You know how to select a game in Duck Hunt, you can shoot offscreen to move the cursor down to the next option? It won't do that. If I use the control pad to chose a game, it will not shoot the screen, it makes no noise at all. The trigger clicks, but there is no gunshot noise from the NES.

Have you tried it with another game? Sounds like your zapper got zapped.

I don't have another game...I think I may just declare it dead and find a new one. First, I'll probably take it appart and make sure it's not something stupid like the trigger being messed up...
