Flojomojo #1 Posted March 22, 2005 There was a special UPS delivery waiting for me when I got home from vacation. It seems that Verizon is serious about using its new fiberoptic network to provide fast Ethernet to the neighborhood. See http://www22.verizon.com/fiosforhome/chann...oot/package.asp 30 times the speed of my current DSL connection, for the same price. I THINK THAT THIS IS SOMETHING I MIGHT WANT Needless to say, I scheduled installation. The SAME AFTERNOON, they tell me I need to clear away the bushes so they can bring the fiber into the house. The in-home portion is scheduled for the morning of March 31st. Halo 2, anyone? I will host ...

Bruce Tomlin #3 Posted March 23, 2005 I am going to kill you and steal your internet. I think a posse would be more effective. I've got 6M/512K DSL right now (with five fixed IP addresses) and hoping that SBC will offer something much better within two years.
Flojomojo #4 Posted March 23, 2005 I am going to kill you and steal your internet. Why don't you just come over and use it sometime? I will bake cookies. Looks like they brought the fiber over to the house from the pole. I'm still stunned that this looks to be happening...

Albert #7 Posted March 23, 2005 Hot damn, that 15 Mbps / 2 Mbps connection for only $49.95 surely would not suck! I'm paying twice that for a 6Mbps / 768Kbs DSL connection right now. Does anyone know where this is being offered now? I didn't see anything about service areas on that site, and I don't have a regular land-based phone number I can put into their phone number field on the page. ..Al

AtariAger #9 Posted March 23, 2005 Yes I believe they are going to go through with this plan. Looking back, I probably should have continued working for Verizon. With the addition of fiber cable...there is definite job security. I would have liked to work in the fiber gang...although I did have fun working for Special Services.(T1 lines etc...) As long as the cable itself is not harmed...you will have excellent uninterrupted service. Your only constraint will be the speed of your hardware... ! On the page that the link goes to on the top right just type it in. Sucks, not available here yet.

Yeah, after I posted my last message I just put in my old phone number, which I had here until about a year ago. Of course, I received the glorious message that the service is not yet available in my area. Not that I'm surprised. ..Al
Flojomojo #12 Posted April 15, 2005 Halo 2, anyone? I will host ... What's your gamertag? 822428[/snapback] My gamertag is Flojomojo. Click on my signature - I've organized the thread into a tasty list for easy entry. Too bad we still need to use the XBOX controller to enter names though. The new connection is superfine. The biggest change has been in XBOX Live! I hosted a big round with over 20 guests playing Star Wars Battlefront last night and really enjoyed it. That was out of the question on my DSL line which barely topped 80kbps on the upload at most times. Hope to see you online!
