StanJr #1 Posted October 23, 2001 Has anyone ever successfully mapped Pitfall!? Is it even possible to map this game, what with all the underground tunnels going god knows where? Does anyone know the screen count from start to finish? Ben? Pitfall! on my mind Stan
+Cafeman #2 Posted October 23, 2001 I can't really help you, but I mapped it all out on paper once. I think there are 255 screens. The screens join as a connected loop and you skip 3 top screens for every underground screen you run through. I had a long line of hand-drawn rectangular screens, with numbers, and had flowchart-like Labels to show where where each shortcut ended up, etc. I never knew what to do with this drawing , I probably don't have it anymore. I never saw this info online, but I'd love to see it if its found.

StanJr #4 Posted October 23, 2001 Actually, I just did some investigating, and DigitalPress has a map on their site here But I'm not thrilled about their version. Maybe your map still lingers about, Cafeman. I'd be interested in seeing it. DigitalPress confirms the 255 screens.
+Cafeman #5 Posted October 23, 2001 Dead Link, Stan. If I do have it, I know where it'd be -- in one of my 100 Manilla Folders.
+Cafeman #6 Posted October 23, 2001 you have .html in your link, it is actually .htm. Actually, the DP one looks pretty concise to me and looks similar to what I drew, with rectangles and codes. I had arrows though, showing how the underground connected. Believe it or not, I did the map while playing Sega CD Pitfall: the Mayan Adventure, which has a perfect copy of Pitfall hidden in it. It's the same as the Genesis/SNES/Jag/32X versions.
StanJr #7 Posted October 23, 2001 You're right. My bad. Try this None of these maps are fun to look at. And you have to keep checking the code to understand them. Maybe I'll do one of my own for my website (if I can ever get it put up) after I finish the mapping for Private Eye. just testing the water to see how well done this map was. Thanks Cafeman

Goochman #11 Posted January 11, 2002 Forget the map, just follow these instructions for a Perfect game (easier said than done!) THE PATTERN The best way to start is to reconfirm the pattern used, for reference purposes...which always heads to the right unless noted... 1st - Start by heading right to the 1st treasure 2nd - next ladder down, then up to 2nd treasure 3rd - head back LEFT, then down and to the right past three (3) scorpions, and up the next ladder 4th - keep heading right until you pick up the 14th treasure...score should be 51,000 if you're at "perfect" 5th - head back LEFT, then down and to the right past seven (7) scorpions, and up the next ladder 6th - keep heading right until you pick up the 25th treasure...score should be 87,000 if you're at "perfect" 7th - continue heading right and take the next ladder down, and head right past one (1) scorpion, then up ladder 8th - continue heading right until you pick up the 30th treasure, with a score of 107,000 if you're at "perfect" 9th - continue heading right and take next ladder down. Go past a few scorpions, head up and to the right until you get the 31st treasure...112K if "perfect" 10th - head LEFT and take next ladder down, then head right past 3 or 4 scorpions and take ladder up. Head right and treasure is less than 3 screens away *************************************************** THE SECRET Extra details removed for you to find out
StanJr #12 Posted January 12, 2002 I think its fair to say Ben knows a thing or two about this game... Understatement Stan
Lemmi #13 Posted January 12, 2002 I was reading the perfect game article from TG, and i still havent come close to a perfect game on pitfall, but pitfall 2 was easy to get a perfect game on
Goochman #14 Posted January 12, 2002 The instructions I posted came from an email over 2 years ago. I knew there were 2 minor mistakes but couldnt remember them . I also left out some big secrets with regard to getting the perfect score (hints on log placement and other goodies). These instructions help my beat the 100K mark which is what I wanted. Perfect game can take weeks of play to get!
Goochman #15 Posted January 12, 2002 One more thing Ben. With regard to your 'go left' theory, if you've completed a perfect game losing 2 men what was your 'time left'? Alan Hewston used the 'right' pattern and I believe had over 30 seconds left on the clock (checkout the Twin Galaxies record). We had a few people play this thing to death and it seemed going right losing no men is the fastest way to win (a few secrets with the tunnels used to gain time). moycon #16 Posted January 12, 2002 What happens when the last treasure is collected? Does the game just stop??.. Or does Harry jump up and down??? Or maybe a secret screen with the words Hurrah!!! You Win!!!!??? (Yeah Right) BTW: I found this on the web...Has everyone seen this?? Pitfall Matrix I thought it was pretty cool.
Goochman #17 Posted January 12, 2002 When you finish the game it gives you a map to the secret landfill where Atari dumped their carts in teh 80's It just stops..... As for Ben, Im in your league - never a perfect game. I know 2 folks who have done it though - Alan Hewston and Robert Mruzcek during a 2600 Decathalon sponsered by Twin Galaxies a few years back. The Night Phantom #22 Posted January 15, 2002 quote: Originally posted by StanJr: ..uummm....could you define "Golden Shower video..." The only raunchy bit is the name. Golden Shower appears to be the name of a music band, in Brazil, I think. This is their awesome music video. Have patience: it may take quite a while to download...but it's quite worthwhile for any VCS fan. Some Portuguese vocabulary that might enhance enjoyment of the video: jornal newspaperhoje show do ______ show todayapresentapresents (verb)carrocar

slapdash #24 Posted January 15, 2002 StanJr -- sorry to worry you there man... Please note however that I'm not lazy with CAPITALIZATION, so if I said the Golden Shower video, it's different than a golden shower video. :-)
