Cobra Commander #1 Posted March 27, 2005 I play a lot of puzzle type games (Intelligent Qube and Tetris are my favorites) I was playing Loopz (NES) today, and realized these graphics are pretty dated but this game is still awesome. Do you folks agree that these puzzle games will retain their playability indefinately unlike so many other crap in a cart games? Anybody recomend any others? I already have: IQ, PS1 Tetris, NES/PS2 Loopz, NES Puzznic, NES Collums, Genny

hex65000 #3 Posted March 27, 2005 Bombastic (PS2) ; It has a bit of a learning curve, but it is enjoyable. Hex. [ last seen being picked up on radar... ]
brendan #4 Posted March 27, 2005 Speaking of puzzle games with learning curves, my favorite puzzle game is Wario's Woods on the SNES (haven't tried the NES version - could be interesting with only 2 buttons). It's especially fun with another player, but has some other versions of the game that can easily keep one player amused. The combos in this game are awesome! brendan #5 Posted March 27, 2005 To answer the first question, yes, I do feel that puzzle games tend to hold their replay value much better than so many other games. Heck, my wife recently got a GBA SP, and just yesterday we got her the old original Tetris for GB so that we could play Tetris with each other.
eric_ruck #6 Posted March 27, 2005 I get hooked on puzzle games really easily. Just discovered BeTrapped on Yahoo, although after a long weekend that got too easy for me. I still like Picture Puzzle and Puzzle Link on NGPC. And right now the game I've been playing most is Driller Spirits on the DS. That counts as a puzzle game, no? awsomo3000 #7 Posted March 28, 2005 how bout pac attack on the snes, Its sorta like tetris but with pac man
Cobra Commander #8 Posted March 28, 2005 Wow I havent heard of most of those. I guess they dont get hyped up about them like they used to, come to think of it the last puzzle game commercial I can remember is Intelligent Qube in 1997. I'll have to do a search on DP for some screen shots and reviews. The kids really like stuff that shoots, flies, or blows up(as do I) I just guess a good puzzle game cant hold up to that in the marketplace. Does the Gamecube have a lot of puzzles? I know Nintendo tends to be a little more inclusive to this sort of play.
+kisrael #9 Posted March 28, 2005 For me, the ultimate head to head puzzle game is Panel de Pon / Tetris Attack / Pokemon Puzzle League (3 rebrandings of the same game) A lot of head to head puzzle games have "garbage blocks", but what's fairly unique about Tetris Attack is that garbage blocks of course can make things harder...but they are also the key to these terrific combo turnarounds that might send tons of garbage over to the opponent, so games can have a nice seesaw effect. Japan has a GameCube puzzle pack with 4 player Dr. Mario, Yoshi's Cookie, and Panel de Pon. (The original very girly fairy-themed version). I'm VERY IRRITATED that this hasn't been slated for USA release.
J.Max #10 Posted March 28, 2005 How could no one mention Bust-A-Move/Puzzle Bobble? That's my favorite, along with Twinkle Star Sprites, Tetris Battle Gaiden, and my newest favorite, Lumines.
StanJr #11 Posted March 28, 2005 Puzzle games are timeless! Try: NES Tetris 2, Krazy Kreatures, Fire n' Ice, Solomon's Key, the Lolo series. N64: Pokemon Puzzle League (just ignore the pokemon if you don't like them!) Gamecube: Pikmin and Pikmin 2 Bust a Move for any platform is great! VCS: Jammed, Qb, Okie Dokie Big love for Puzzle Games!

Ralph3 #13 Posted March 28, 2005 What!?!?! No Klax mentioned! In my opinion, better and more challenging than Tetris.
Cobra Commander #14 Posted March 28, 2005 I loved Bust-a-move in the arcade, that and Klax. Klax I have on the Midway Arcade Treasures(PS2) I like the fart like sound effects. I'll have to look for bust-a-move, I think I saw it at EB the other day. I completely forgot I had Yoshies cookie. Great sugestions folks I have to keep my eye out. Inky #15 Posted March 28, 2005 Let's just say the two games that get the most play on my lynx are Shanghai and Rampart. Both excellent puzzle games.
RJ #16 Posted March 28, 2005 A low-end ($10) PS/PS2 puzzle game is Turnabout, I bought mine awhile back but have seen a few still around. There's not much to it, but it's quite decent & maddenly addictive. Plus, there's an editor to create new levels.

Fellow Atari Man #19 Posted March 28, 2005 Might be kind of hard to find, but a great combo of a puzzle, shooter and platformer is Fatal Rewind for the Genesis.

StanJr #21 Posted March 28, 2005 Dudes with Attitude for the NES as well. Different take on a puzzle game, but very good and challenging!
n8littlefield #22 Posted March 28, 2005 I just managed to find a copy of It's Mr Pants on the GBA and it is incredibly fun and addictive.
Shannon #23 Posted March 30, 2005 I was never a big fan of tetris. But I've always liked bust -a- move klax sega swirl tetris worlds (N64)
Cobra Commander #24 Posted March 31, 2005 Found a Tetris 2 (SNES) yesterday, its pretty good especialy sound-wise. The guy also had Klax for genny, but I didnt have enough for it. He wanted $7.95 for his 16-bit stuff, and I didnt have enough to try to talk him down on a bulk purchase. I think Bust-a Move (N64) will be my next puzzle pick up. Dones #25 Posted March 31, 2005 Tetrisphere for N64 is a favorite of mine. It has a "hate it or love it" effect on the people I know have played it, with no in between. I guess the psychodelic art style isn't for everyone. A lesser known N64 puzzler, Charlie's Blast Territory, is a generic puzzler with plain graphics but will entertain you still. If you are into importing I definitely recommend Konami's TsaiTsen PuzzleDama for the N64. The anime graphics are music are top notch. The puyo puyo like action is great. AFAIK this game is not emulated.
