jeepnut24 #1 Posted March 29, 2005 Yes, I know its fake, but what is it trying to be? Cherry? Im trying to get a wood stain that is close in color for my little project. Thanks

sku_u #7 Posted March 29, 2005 It's teak. I only know that because I picked up three storage/display carts from a friend and the color of the fake finish is teak and exactly the same finish as the fake finish on my 6er.

maibock #9 Posted March 29, 2005 The oak cabinets in our kitchen look exactly like Atari woodgrain(why do you think I bought the house!?)
video game addict #10 Posted March 29, 2005 Oak usually has more grain to it though, and lots of smaller marks, not the long stripes you see on the Atari. I'm not familiar with Teak. If it's oak it's not exactly an accurate representation. The color is close, but the grain is inconsistent with what a oak should look like. It is however just a faux woodgrain, so it could be they made it out several grains all rolled into one. Anyone want to ponder a guess on the Sears woodgrain? It's always had this marbelized look to it. Betcha that's a hard grain to reproduce!

Stingray #12 Posted March 29, 2005 Burl Walnut. -S
candiru #13 Posted March 29, 2005 Another vote for teak. But if you got a good straight-grained cut of oak, filled the pores, and stained it just right, it could also look nearly identical to the 2600's finish. Sounds like a lot more work though. jeepnut24 #14 Posted March 29, 2005 Not going for perfect, just close. Im a perfectionist, but Im also a procrastonator. At this point I just want it done. Teak it is.
Mike OC #15 Posted March 29, 2005 I think it's Ent. My Sears light sixer appears to bear a striking resemblence to Tree Beard!

Retro Gamer #23 Posted April 23, 2005 I would say that it is teak because we have a teak lamp in our house and the wood looks just like the 2600 grain
Jofu #24 Posted April 23, 2005 Definitely not cherry wood, thats red... 826816[/snapback] Actually cherry wood is close to any wood color when natural and plain The red you probably refer to comes from a burgundy- or Merlot-color dye applied to it. Now, is that more information than what you wanted to know or what??? Geoff
