Danno #1 Posted March 29, 2005 Does anyone know a good place to get 2600 & 7800 games within reasonable driving distance from Boston? I'm getting kind of tired of goig to flea markets that have nothing.

sku_u #3 Posted March 29, 2005 Sorry, I'm not about to give up my favorite game finding areas in Mass.
Danno #4 Posted March 29, 2005 Yes, I've seen the NECG list. 1/2 of those places don't exist anymore. I'll have to check out the place in Malden. I've been to the "Big Scary". It's been pretty lame every time I go there.
Danno #5 Posted March 29, 2005 Sorry, I'm not about to give up my favorite game finding areas in Mass. I'm not looking for the rare carts, just commons. I'm just starting my collection.
sku_u #6 Posted March 29, 2005 and I'm sure you'd leave a rarity 9 cart for $5.00 sitting there for someone else to find it. Just like the rest of us would.
Keir #7 Posted March 29, 2005 Yes, I've seen the NECG list. 1/2 of those places don't exist anymore. I'll have to check out the place in Malden. I've been to the "Big Scary". It's been pretty lame every time I go there. Good news and bad news. The good news? There's a new NECG site! http://www.azureware.com/cgi-bin/necg/index.cgi The bad news? The hot spots map still has all the same non-existant places. In fact, I think that place in Malden may have closed as well. There is this one place in Bridgewater... it's called "my house" and if you want to know what's you'll find there look here: http://www.geocities.com/metalkeir/trade.html
Danno #8 Posted March 29, 2005 actually, I would. I don't care much for the "obscure" games or label variations or whatever it is that is the big draw for serious collectors. I just want to get back all the games I had as a kid, or maybe a few that I couldn't afford back then. I never had any rare ones. Never really wanted them, either. I had a few semi-rare ones, but what I've found is that most of the "obscure" games suck, as far as playing. I've played them all in Emulators, and would have absolutely no desire to spend some ungodly amount of money on a game that sucks just because some collectors consider it rare. I wouldn't even bother if they were affordable, like you said for $5.00 or so. Especially since it would deprive someone else of being able to get it for $5.00 and then turn around and rip someone off by selling it on Ebay for some ridiculous price based on someone's warped perception of value. Yeah Capitalism!!! I just feel bad for the poor schlub who think's he's getting a bargain after just barely inching out 2 ebay shills(friends of the seller) and a compulsive shopper nutjob in an auction where suddenly a $5.00 cart is being sold for $125.00. [/end rant] I just want to recapture all the games I lost. I promise, I'll leave all the weirdo games alone.
sku_u #9 Posted March 29, 2005 I just want to recapture all the games I lost. I promise, I'll leave all the weirdo games alone. In all seriousness, if you ever see a rare game for next to nothing, snatch it up and buy it. Here are a few reasons to do so: 1. You can trade for probably most of the games you're looking for in one fell swoop. 2. You can sell it for a nice profit and use the money to buy more games. 3. You can buy it and sell it for more than you bought it for, but still less than market value and make everyone happy.
Red 5 #10 Posted March 29, 2005 I just wanted the 30 or 40 games I had as a kid too. 5 years and 300 + carts later... Beware the addiction !
Mental Vortex #11 Posted March 29, 2005 I just wanted the 30 or 40 games I had as a kid too. 5 years and 300 + carts later... Beware the addiction ! Ha! I hear ya. Started getting a 2600 to play Pitfall, Starmaster, etc., and still going after discovering all the other games I didn't know existed. Unfortunately the thrift stores around here are pretty dry as far as any old video game stuff, which hasn't helped.
Danno #12 Posted March 29, 2005 man, you guys are worse than heroin dealers.
keilbaca #13 Posted March 29, 2005 I was the same way. Get to Japan, wanted to play atari again. got the old carts from home, wanted the few I was still missing from when my mom sold my other collections. Now a year later I have just over 350 carts, 70 or so complete. It is addicting.

AlexKIDD #15 Posted March 30, 2005 I go to video game castle. There is one in springfield and one in palmer. Not near Boston, but still in mass. Lots of 2600 and 7800 games for $1 each.
christianscott27 #16 Posted April 5, 2005 ahh my hotspots list, dont ya know i left the really good ones off that? simple self promotion, you could find all your needs at our trademeets and probably cheaper than any retail place. theres always fred's place up in pelham NH, easily the best 2600 spot in NE if not the world. closer to boston you could try your look with the guys out at the revere flea market (squire road, parking lot of the megaplex). more directly you could stop by and grab some stuff from my trade mountain, i'm right in boston. PM me if you like, i like to trade but dont mind selling the more common stuff.
Great Hierophant #17 Posted April 5, 2005 The guy who runs the NH store in Plaistow has a new store in Middleboro, MA. His son runs it and they some decent stuff, a bit of selection, although the prices are a bit too steep for my taste. Its called Gamecenter.
bcprs1 #18 Posted April 5, 2005 I also live in Bridgewater (right down the street from Keir). I have tons of extra 2600 commons that I don't mind selling. I have also been to the store in Middleboro and found his prices a little out of my range. There is also a really bad flea market in Stoughton that used to have some games, but I think that place is about to close. Last time I was in there, half the place was empty. Actually, I believe half the place is used for auctions on Friday nights so it stays empty for that. That place does suck though.
bcprs1 #20 Posted April 5, 2005 I don't even think they do auctions there anymore it has gotten that bad. I was able to pick up some 2600 and NES carts pretty cheap, but I haven't seen anything game related there since last summer.
cbroddy #21 Posted May 3, 2006 You will find a vendor at the Grafton Flea Market who has many Atari 2600 games at $3 each. I was very surprised when I saw them last week. I have never seen any atari games there in a couple of years.
bcprs1 #22 Posted May 3, 2006 It has been pretty dry lately. I had a few "secret" spots that have only yielded a few NES carts lately. I think someone else might have found my secret because the last few times, I've only found commons that look like someone has sorted through.
