jeepnut24 #1 Posted March 31, 2005 Ok, Ive had a GBA for over a year now and it doesn't get the use I would like it to. Im looking for suggestions on some great games. Not looking at NES re-issues either I have the ones that I already want. Zelda and SMB3. My favorite portable genre is puzzle games so that might help with suggestions. Not really interested in pokemon and the like either. What about the castlevania titles? Any kirby titles for the GBA?
Stingray #2 Posted March 31, 2005 Mario Vs. Donkey Kong is not only the best GBA game IMO, but it's also one of my favorites on any platform. Metroid Zero Mission & Metroid Fusion are another couple of really good ones. -S
Lost Monkey #3 Posted March 31, 2005 What about the castlevania titles? I have played Castlevania COTM from start to finish and it was a lot of fun... I wouldn't recommend it unless you have an SP or a GBA player though as it is really dark... I couldn't make heads or tails of it on the original GBA.. joeybastard #4 Posted March 31, 2005 Advance Wars 1 & 2 are both excellent. WarioWare is one of my favs and has tons of extra stuff. Konami Advanced is an excellent compilation(not a puzzler but good) Chu Chu Rocket is a nice addition to the DC classic Super Monkey Ball Jr. is a lot of fun too. I played a game that I think was called Fortress on a friend's, that was pretty cool. Sort of a Tetris/Rampart mix. I have to look for that one myself one of these days. AlexKIDD #5 Posted March 31, 2005 Circle of the Moon is ok but Castlevania:Aria of Sorrow is the best one in my opinion. Namco museum is a great "pick up and play" game. If you like old school RPG's then i'd recommend Phantasy Star collection.

xenomorpher #7 Posted April 1, 2005 They did make an Oddworld game thats 2d (like the Playstation versions) if you are a fan of the series.
davepesc #8 Posted April 1, 2005 Fire Emblem is like Advance Wars, but with SWORDS! Seriously, it's a good game. A little tougher than Advance Wars because you can't let ANYONE die. Well, you can, but you lose them for the rest of the game. Other than that, Metroid Zero Mission, Wario Ware, Phantasy Star Collection (if you don't have the originals). I also have Konami Arcade Advanced, but I don't recommend it. The games are good, but I bought the cart for Gyruss and I can't see a damn thing on the GBA screen. I've died dozens of times, but still haven't seen an enemy bullet.
hex65000 #9 Posted April 1, 2005 Import Mr. Driller Ace. 6 different characters + three different game modes + Mr. Drillah = a good way to watse time. Oddly, I can only find copies of Mr. Driller 2 online. It's good, but Ace is superior -- unless you like to collect the different versions of Mr. Driller. (Like I do. ) I also like the Medabots RPG, but I regard that as Pokemon class and probably won't do much for you. Hex. Room 34 #10 Posted April 1, 2005 I've been playing Zelda: The Minish Cap almost nonstop since I got my GBA SP two weeks ago. I also have both Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion, and I think they are both excellent. (Of course, I am also a Metroid nut.) In the retro realm, Activision Anthology gets very high marks! Namco Museum is OK, but Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits is to be avoided at all costs! My biggest frustration with the GBA is that the games are starting to disappear from the stores now that the DS is out. Most of the games people have been recommending around here are almost impossible to come by! (I guess it's time to start ordering them on Amazon.com before they completely vanish.) tiggerthehun #11 Posted April 1, 2005 I loved playing "Yoshi's Island" again!
xenomorpher #12 Posted April 1, 2005 That Oddworld game I mentioned is sorta 3D not completely 2D. I must have thought of some other game.

BydoEmpire #14 Posted April 1, 2005 Advance Wars is awesome. Defiitely at the top of the list. While I liked Mario vs. DK, I picked up Donkey Kong for GBC and I think it's much better. Very, very similar games. But with DK/GBC the controls are tighter, the levels are more fun, and the overall design is better, imho. Both are good and worth picking up. I've enjoyed Activision Anthology and the Konami Arcade Classics quite a lot. Activision is better, imho. It saves high scores for each game, and you can unlock patches when you beat the qualifying score.

I keep meaning to pick up DK/GBC, but was never sure if I would like it as much as Mario vs DK. Thanks for the endorsement. I think I'll stop by the local used game shop and see if they have it after work today. -S

ubersaurus #17 Posted April 2, 2005 Puzzle Fighter is out on GBA-that's a damn good puzzle game. Metal Slug Advance also rocks hard, I like that one a lot.
