520 ST

Recommended Posts

You could always pick them up from B&C Computervisions or Best Electronics, might be a bit pricey...

You might in the long run just be better off buying a 520ST off of Ebay, it may cost you $10-$20, and then you'd have a p/s, mouse and a spare system :-)

OK I didn't want start a other post what do I need to up grade the TOS on the 520?

If you have TOS 1.00 or 1.02 then you just need to replace the ROM Chips to upgrade to 1.04, otherwise you will have to by a and install a TOS switch board. These usually have TOS 2.06 installed and a switch to select either 2.06 or your original TOS version for compatability reasons.

Alternatively you could go the software route, there is a program called IIRC Select TOS that allows you to install TOS from image files however that will consume RAM and so you would need at least 1 Meg of RAM to ensure you have enough memory for both the installed version of TOS and the software you wanted to run.

AFAIK that should be possible provided it is not higher than TOS 1.04 and uses the same number of ROM chips as your 520. Some ST's have TOS in only two chips and some in six, however if you have a 1040 that is not working you might be better off trying to get that going as you will save having to swap out the TOS chips and have more RAM and therefore greater flexability in the software that you are able to run.
