Cobra Commander #1 Posted April 2, 2005 How many of you have gotten a defective DC disc? I've only found one "Armada" but I got it at a local game store and was able to return it. Is it risky to buy new games from an auction, or is it better to get used games? thinking they would have been returned if they were defective. I only have a few DC titles and have been thinking of getting more, mostly just exclusives, but am a little leary of buying new games. How common are DOA games? Or is this a myth, and just a hardware issue?
Dones #2 Posted April 2, 2005 For a moment there I thought you were talking about Dead or Alive. LOL Yes you should be careful when buying used discs on ebay. I once got a doa disc from a shady seller. I bought from him a House of the Dead 2 disc. In the auction he said the disc was used and had "light scratches". When I got the disc it was badly scratched (no where near the description of the item) and was unplayable. Usually what I do now is ask them how badly scratched the disc is. Usually sellers will answer with a bit more detail as to the condition of the disc. If the seller doesn't answer then that raises a flag.
chrisbid #3 Posted April 2, 2005 it could also be your dreamcast system. i have two systems, and a handful of games wont work on one, and a different set of games wont work on the other. as much as i love my dc, it is quite a finicky system
Lost Monkey #4 Posted April 2, 2005 As far as buying "new" games goes.. don't hesitate.. the only "problematic" GD's were at the launch of the DC, and there really shouldn't be any of those floating around as "new"...
Cobra Commander #5 Posted April 3, 2005 Well I just looked at my 2 DC's, one is manufactured: june 2000 WK made in China, and the other is, May 2000 SD made in Japan(I only got the later last month). To bad I dont have that disc to try out on the other system for a little experment. I think I'll just check release dates, and buy new. thanks.
Ze_ro #6 Posted April 3, 2005 the only "problematic" GD's were at the launch of the DC, and there really shouldn't be any of those floating around as "new"... Even those should be relatively safe. I think the only problem with them was an issue with the sound... so they'd still work, you just might have some odd sound problems. If you're trying to avoid this, I think all the games with this problem were Midway releases (Mortal Kombat Gold, Hydro Thunder, Ready 2 Rumble, etc), and they were all later fixed and released with "Hot! New!" stickers on the front. --Zero
bruser_inc #7 Posted April 3, 2005 When I bought my Dreamcast on 9/9/99 I bought Ready 2 Rumble and it had sound problems. Kept cutting in and out, if I remember right. Never had a problem with any game (50 games, 30 bought new) after that.
Dones #8 Posted April 3, 2005 The guys at Segabase confirm that on the US launch there was a bad batch of Midway cd's for Ready 2 Rumble. The site has tons of other interesting information. Worth checking out.
Lost Monkey #9 Posted April 3, 2005 Both Sonic Adventure and Blue Stinger were released with defective copies that would not load at all... AFAIK the Midway titles did only have sound issues...
dalton4life #10 Posted April 19, 2005 Both Sonic Adventure and Blue Stinger were released with defective copies that would not load at all... AFAIK the Midway titles did only have sound issues... 830190[/snapback] I just bought a Sports Edition Dreamcast and got 8 games with and picked up another, Blue Stinger. Only the 4 of the games including the Blue Stinger worked. None of the games had major scratches and some looked almost unscratched. Now I downloaded a copy of Crazy Taxi and that worked while my original copy did not. Also I noticed my DC has a better chance of loading whatever when I flip it upside down. joeybastard #11 Posted April 19, 2005 I'm surprised you guys have such load problems onthe DC. Both of mine play just about any disc regardless of condition. The only 1 I ever came across that didn't work was a Rainbow Six CD that I got for free from Blockbuster because they are dumb. They had an all games $3 off but had a few DC and N64 games left so I went in and got a couple for freethat were marked $2.99. They owed me a penny on it but I told them, to keep it. Anyway, that CD was so badly damaged it wouldn't work.
Cobra Commander #12 Posted April 20, 2005 Sorry bout your luck. I've decided to only buy the DC exclusives, Unless there real cheap. I'm only buying localy so its easy to return if I cant get them to work. As long as Sega bass fishin' keeps working the world will keep turning.
