gambler172 #1 Posted April 3, 2005 Hi guys last week,i got my CC2.Really great, but i use it on a 7800 Pal system. And i have some problems with some games.Gato,Rescue on Fractalus, Senso,Andrew Davie´s Notbd,Commando and some other 7800 games do not run, although i own the Pal roms. Can anybody help?Or can i use NTSC roms on my Pal system? greetings Gambler172
cschell #2 Posted April 3, 2005 I'm no expert on what will and won't run on PAL 7800's, but it would be helpful if you posted the MENU.TXT entries for the games that don't run. It could be a case of incorrect banking or startup files. Or if you are actually getting an error message, list the full message. Chad
gambler172 #3 Posted April 3, 2005 Hi Chad i get no error message. The files appear on the CC2,but they do not work. This is the text for Andrew Davie´s Notboulderdash. Bouldern BOULN 3E 78BIOS Boulderp BOULP 3E 78BIOS i only renamed the bin files, but it does not work This is the text for Gato Gato78 GATO 7800_48K 78BIOS When starting,it changes to the built in 7800 Pal Asteroids Here the text for Rescue on Fractalus ResFrac78 RSFRCTLS 7800_ROF This is the text for Commando Comm78 COMM78 78SC_POK 78BIOS and here the text for the 3 Senso versions(i renamed the files) Senso78 SENSO78 7800_48K 78BIOS Senso3 SENSO3 7800_48K 78BIOS Senso5 SENSO5 7800_48K 78BIOS And the text for Fatal Run 7800 pal version Fatal 78 FATAL78P 78SC_LOW 78BIOS And at last MS Pac Man NTSC for use with highscore cart Ms.Pac Man 78 MSPAC78 HSC_16K HSC And certainly i did not forget the tab key greetings Gambler172
Mayhem #4 Posted April 3, 2005 Well I'm running PAL 7800 here myself... checked my MENU file and you've got everything set up correctly (ie. it's the same as mine). I can only think you've got some bad ROMs there or something. Can you send over the NotBoulderdash and Senso ROMs to me (either attach here in a post or to my email address) as I appear to be missing them? Cheers
Mayhem #5 Posted April 3, 2005 Oh, here's a zip with the 5 files I have for the ones you can't get to work; all of them are fine on my 7800. gambler.zip
cschell #6 Posted April 3, 2005 Hi Chadi get no error message. The files appear on the CC2,but they do not work. This is the text for Andrew Davie´s Notboulderdash. Bouldern BOULN 3E 78BIOS Boulderp BOULP 3E 78BIOS i only renamed the bin files, but it does not work 3E games require the 3E3F512K startup. I forget the exact name but look in your startup directory for something close to that and replace 78BIOS. This is the text for Gato Gato78 GATO 7800_48K 78BIOS When starting,it changes to the built in 7800 Pal Asteroids Try 78QUICK to bypass your BIOS perhaps? And at last MS Pac Man NTSC for use with highscore cart Ms.Pac Man 78 MSPAC78 HSC_16K HSC Make sure you have HSC.ROM in your startup directory. Not sure on the others. Don't have a menu file on the computer I'm using right now to check that everything is using the correct banking. I'd try replacing the 78BIOS and HSC startups with 78QUICK and HSCQUICK. +Mitch #7 Posted April 3, 2005 Did you use 7800 BIN files or did you rename A78 files? Mitch
Mayhem #8 Posted April 4, 2005 Got the email Gambler, will have a look tomorrow if I get the chance. What's the startup file needed for Senso btw?
+Mitch #9 Posted April 4, 2005 What's the startup file needed for Senso btw? Either 78BIOS or 78QUICK depending on whether it's signed or not. Probably wouldn't matter on a PAL 7800. Mitch
Mayhem #10 Posted April 4, 2005 Duh... typo there... I meant banking (I'm guessing 7800_48K here)
gambler172 #11 Posted April 4, 2005 Hi Mich i used the A78 files and renamed them to BIN. I normally find only A78 files on the net.Where can i get BIN files,if necessary? greetings Gambler
+Mitch #12 Posted April 4, 2005 Hi Michi used the A78 files and renamed them to BIN. I normally find only A78 files on the net.Where can i get BIN files,if necessary? greetings Gambler You can snag the BIN files here (scroll down for the PAL versions). Renaming the A78 files doesn't work because there is a header included that needs to be removed as well. Mitch
Mayhem #13 Posted April 5, 2005 Thought as much... just before I went to go off and test the ROMs you sent me Gambler Hunt out my ZIP file in the CC2 thread... almost 1,100 ROMs of goodness there to play with (both NTSC and PAL). Cheers for the Senso stuff though... will go try them out.
cschell #14 Posted April 5, 2005 Good catch on the A78 files Mitch. We should rename this thread to cc2 problems - oops don't use A78 files. Happens often enough it should have occurred to me. Chad
Mayhem #15 Posted April 6, 2005 Remind me... first 128 bytes to strip off an A78 file to make it a BIN, right?
+Mitch #16 Posted April 6, 2005 Remind me... first 128 bytes to strip off an A78 file to make it a BIN, right? Yep, through where it says "actual cart data starts here". Mitch

+Mitch #18 Posted April 6, 2005 Hello Thanks Mayhem, thanks Mitch and Chad. Now nearly everything works.Only Notboulderdash from Andrew Davie and Senso 7800 do not work.Does anybody know, how to get this 2 games working. many thanks and greetings Gambler172 Try this version of Senso 7800 DX, use 7800_48K and 7800BIOS with the bin file. I included the A78 in case anyone wanted to try in in MESS. I don't seem to have a copy of Notboulderdash so I can't help you with that one. Mayhem #19 Posted April 6, 2005 The Senso files you sent me Gambler were all renamed A78 files so they need the first 128 bytes stripping. I've done that, will go test them later (and the one Mitch has just put up). Will also test Not Boulderdash as well...
128bytes #20 Posted April 6, 2005 all renamed A78 files so they need the first 128 bytes stripping. I've done that Hey, everyone's still trying to take a peek at me... :blushing: Seriously, we should try to have both .a78 and .bin files available for download at the AtariAge site. I would even go as far to say that if there had to be only one version available, it should be the .bin version. It would do wonders for my modesty! Mayhem #21 Posted April 6, 2005 Checked things out. I've got two different Senso files; they both say v0.9 in game but one of them has 2001 on the intro screen, and the other has 2003. Any actual difference? And I got Not Boulderdash to work fine (using the BINs from the homebrew thread Andrew started). Just remember you need 3E banking and the 3E3F512K startup BIOS.
