need help with castlevania 4

Recommended Posts

I'm attempting to beat dracula in this game and I need some help. I can get to the part where he starts making fireballs appear without getting hit but it's all downhill from there. I have two things in the upper right corner of the screen that look like scrolls with numbers on them. Does anyone know what these are and how to use them? I could probably figure this this out if I had the manual but I only have the cartridge.

If I am not mistaken, when you break candles there is an order in which power ups will be given to you. Assuming you don't die, you keep breaking candles and the 1st/2nd power up should be a more powerful whip. You will eventually get what looks like a slab with the roman numeral "II" on it (and later a "III"). This means you can fire two(or three) simultaneous shots of your secondary weapon at a time.

Before going up the stairs to fight Dracula, do a jump of faith from right to left starting the right where the stairs begin. You will land on an invisible ledge. At the left end of this ledge the game will power you up with a cross and a "III". Just after climbing the stairs, you will notice a suspicious block in the ceiling which you can reach with a jump and whip. This will open another hidden room where you can choose any weapon of your choice.

Keep at it, if you made it past the Birdman in the previous level, you can beat Dracula. Other than Drac from Simon's Quest, he's actually the easiest one IMO. Of course I have never faced him without jumping onto the hidden platform and getting full power ups. The final boss in Castlevania 3 has pushed me to near destruction more than once
