I'm so tired of jerks on eBay...

Recommended Posts

I am so tired of dealing with idiots and jerks on eBay...I have received two negatives in the past 2 weeks for the following:

1. The most recent one was a guy who never paid. I asked him nicely to pay, then filed an NPB. Well, he must have done it to some other people too, because he now has a feedback of -4, all from non-pays. His comments on the negative were "don't want". I'm trying to get eBay to remove this one...we'll see what happens.

2. I also got one from a guy who claimed that 2 out of 3 controllers that I sold him didn't work. That would be OK, and I would have given his money back, but HE NEVER ASKED FOR IT BACK! No attempt was made to resolve the situation.

I have also had a lot of problems with people not wanting to follow simple instructions, such as only paying with Paypal, and just a lot of general rudeness. Is it just me, or are people on eBay getting more obnoxious and harder to deal with? In 5 years on eBay, I've never had more problems than I have had in the last 2-3 months.

It's been going that way for a while now, as eBay tries to reach out to a wider and wider audience, get more and more mainstream, and make more and more money. That means the n00bs who don't get it, the jerks who do but won't play along, the sellers with a bad attitude and the cons who just want to rip you off are becoming more the rule than the exception. That's why I'd much rather bid on listings by AA users, because for the 99.9% most part, those at least you can trust.

I really love our Marketplace section. You can usually find what your looking for with a great price and reliable seller.

Yeah they do seem to be coming out of the woodwork lately. I regularly get questions that could easily be answered by reading my 2 paragraph auction description. In the last few months I've gotten a neg and two neutrals, all of which were complaints about slow delivery times. They don't seem to understand that its the post office, not me, who does the actual delivery part. As a result, I've now stopped using media mail entirely. It's just not worth the constant "My game hasn't arrived yet!!!!" hassle.

It's nothing new. A lot of sellers take it for granted that all their prospective buyers possess the same reading comprehension as them. This is definitely not the case. Most adults do not read instructions and if they do, tend to miss key points being made in the instructions. Throw in the possibility that someone's seeing a newly listed item or an item ending in a minute and you can broaden that gap even further. That's why it's best to keep the auction listing and terms of sale as simple as possible. Limit the description to a few sentences and let your pictures do all the talking.

Yes things are geting out of hand with Ebay feedback system. This system will have to change to protect negative feedback to sellers who are good sellers.

Lets hope you made some good money on the controllers with one being broke and thats how much a negative feedback puts in you pocket to keep since now you dont need to refund anything now.

People are dumb sometimes even at my store. Every now and then a system will mess up after I sell it. I give a 30 day warranty. And instead of returning it or having me fix it they just complain and I hear about it a few weeks later. Now thats like a negative being left to me. Why would i want to take care of that customer after they have complained instead of returning for me to take care of them. So then they come in 2 months later to get something and they say it messed up and i tell them all they had to do was bring it in and i would have fixed the problem.

I'm sure most of you have seen my mint/sealed NHL games by now? :D

Anyway, I sell them cheap now. 24 identical games for £5.

Got a neg -------- "ALL THE SAME GAME".

I'd actually jogged to the post office with the parcel under my arm, to catch the last collection, as he did a B.I.N and paid, late afternoon on a Friday.

:ponder: Id murder him in his bed while he slept.... but I tend to over-react sometimes with difficult customers.. ;)

eBay causes such a love - hate feeling for me. I love it for the things you can purchase that you might not find anywhere else. I hate it because of the damn BS games you play with both buyers & sellers. An example:

I was tempted to purchase THIS ITEM; been wanting one and the auction description made the seller sound reliable and trustworthy. But being careful, I did a little looking into the feedback HERE and was shocked to see the exact opposite seemed to be true: didn't package things properly, seemed to take their time to ship, items weren't as advertised, and had several complaints about misleading excessive shipping prices vs. what it actually cost to ship.

I don't know if every negative complaint is true (because not all buyers are reliable and trustworthy either) but I am tempted to believe that enough of them are true to make me stay away from any auction by this seller.

But who do you blame more.... the seller who doesn't appear to be totally honest or the buyers who can see the complaints but continue to purchase from that seller???

eBay... ya take yer chances, I guess.

Wow! Thanks for the link to Toolhaus.org. I had no idea that it even existed! I've always thought that something like that should be incorporated into eBay; I've spent too much time going back through feedback of sellers who go through thousands of transactions a month, their visible feedback would seemingly suggest that they are A-okay, but they get many many negatives and their percentage makes me weary.

It certainly would have saved me some grief over this guy. :-P

That toolhaus is a great item. I typed in my own ebay id. Came up with 9 negs and neutrals about me. Then I saw what I left and it said 40. Thing is, there are 2 neutrals towards the bottom that say something about a bike. I never bought a bike, so I don't know what this is. Possibly my roommate used my account a long time ago and I just don't remember. :)

I would blame ebay's advertising in part, they seem to convay a message that everything is new on ebay and that they are buying from ebay not an individual seller, I've gotten 2 negative feedbacks from buyers that thought I was selling broken nintendo's because they blink, and in the auction I stated that they blink, basically by advertising they are welcoming idiots to act stupid.

Ebay got too big for their own good. This was about 2 1/2 to 3 years ago. Early on, you had to host your own pics. I actually like their picture services, but the more and more they make it easier to use, the more inexperienced sellers and buyers will join and not be happy with the outcome due to lack of knowledge.

Depends, Phil..... I don't care on iota for their "stock" pictures. Too many people use them as the sole source of showing a "like new item" and it gives you no idea at all what you are really buying. Yeah, a description only auction doesn't really give you an idea of what you are buying either but the stock pictures, to me, are a way of misleading a buyer by making you think the item is in good condition because they've "shown" it.

Just my opinion but I would much rather have auctions with real pictures of the item you are bidding on or no picture at all.

Yeah. My buddy uses stock pics on new items like statues and stuff. I actually will use stock pics once in awhile for items I know I have in brand new mint condition. Sometimes I'll do one scan or pic and then reuse the same photo, even if the item I have is a little different. Sometimes I'll have anywhere from 2-50 of an item. I can't keep wasting time to take a new pic each time for a $4 item.
