figgler #1 Posted April 4, 2005 I figure someone here must be a Doom expert and be able to help. I just found a copy of Final Doom for PS1, but there is no telling exactly how or if this fits into the series. (Which I know almost nothing about I must say) It's actually a little confusing what with all the portals to Hell and whatnot Who knows how this all fits together / has a chronology? Also, did I make a good choice grabbing Final Doom for $7?
Dones #2 Posted April 4, 2005 I am no expert, but this guide at gamefaqs.com has all the info you need, down to every detail. From what I read the PSX version is a comilation of selected levels from previous pc doom and doom II games.
Cobra Commander #3 Posted April 4, 2005 Didnt get through on that link, and am not a Doom expert. I scored a PS1 Doom in the long-box the other day and when I popped it in and played I realized It has held up pretty well, and still has great gameplay. I might be becoming a fan of FPS's if there done well.
Dones #4 Posted April 4, 2005 Really? Copy and Paste it then: http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/fil...ster_levels.txt ...or look it up yourself at gamefaqs.com.
sega saturn x #5 Posted April 4, 2005 I love doom and final doom is just a mix of doom 1 and 2 level's. The games dont really fit in to any time line and if you like final doom then you have got to pick up doom 64 which took doom to a whole new level of ass kickery when it came out. Lord Thag #6 Posted April 5, 2005 Doom64 is awesome. There is a PC port you can download for free as well. Don't remember the site though....
sega saturn x #7 Posted April 5, 2005 Im having some problems saving my game in doom 64 maybe you can help i get to the save screen. Then i hit the button to save but nothing happens is my card dead or is it my cpntroler?
IronMongeR #8 Posted April 5, 2005 I thought Ultimate Doom was a mix of Doom 1 and the extra mission 'Thy Flesh Consumed'? Final Doom was 32 new levels using weapons and stuff from Doom 2. Not an expert on the matter or anything though, been a few years since I played them.
Needles Kane #9 Posted April 5, 2005 Iron is right. Doom for PSX is Ultimate Doom (which I'm pretty sure is Doom 1 and that extra mission) and Doom II. Ultimate Doom for PSX is made up of the Plutonia and TNT levels, not Doom I or II.
mechanized #10 Posted April 5, 2005 And for all you PC Doom 2 players, keep in mind the player-made mod levels. In particular, I recommend getting the Osiris mod... it's one of the best, easily, with a sort of Star Gate feel to it. Good stuff all around.
Shannon #11 Posted April 5, 2005 PSX Doom + Final Doom is actually one of the better (read- well) done FPS's for the playstation. Believe it or not even Quake 2 was pretty well done, and the N64 version absolutely shines.
moycon #12 Posted April 5, 2005 Doom 64 was one of the first games I picked up on the N64 (After Mario 64 and Mortal Kombat) It is great! I remember there was an anouncement that Doom 2 was coming for N64, but sadly never showed up. I wonder if any work was done on a second Doom 64? Rhindle The Red #13 Posted April 5, 2005 Doom is one of my favorite games of all time and I think I have every version of the classic games bar the 3DO version. The basic games in the Doom series are as follows: Doom / Ultimate Doom - PC, Mac, PSX, Saturn, 3DO, Jaguar, SNES, 32X, Game Boy Advance Final Doom - PC, PSX Doom II - PC, Game Boy Advance (most levels incorporated into PSX and Saturn versions of Doom.) Doom 64 - N64 Doom III - PC, Mac, XBOX To see a comparison of the various "Dooms", go here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/jaguar/gam...ame/563365.html Then click on the "Comparison Guide". It literaly covers *everything* you need to know about what is in the various versions of Doom and Doom II. It will need to be updated to include the XBOX versions of the classic "Dooms" that are on the special edition of Doom III.
+Cobra Kai #14 Posted April 5, 2005 Im having some problems saving my game in doom 64 maybe you can help i get to the save screen. Then i hit the button to save but nothing happens is my card dead or is it my cpntroler? I believe you must hit c-right and c-left at the same time to save. How are you liking Doom 64 by the way? +Cobra Kai #15 Posted April 5, 2005 Actually there is a massive mod from these guys :http://www.doomsdayhq.com/ that you can find, to convert all Doom games to run in Hi-Res, along with a complete mod for Doom 64 to run on your PC.
+Cobra Kai #16 Posted April 5, 2005 Oh, and Final Doom is nothing spectacular, just a weasly way to milk the franchise(it is worth $7 though IMO). For a real treat you must indulge yourself with Doom 64 for the N64, 32 all new levels, completely rendered in 3D, except the enemies are still 2D sprites but they look great, and the game can throw massive amounts of baddies your way. That massive amount of baddies is really the hallmark of the oldschool DOOM series... I really liked how most versions don't even have to sweep away dead bodies leaving a pile of corpses marking your path like breadcrumbs. Halo does some of the same stuff, but can't throw the same amount of stuff at you. Any other games manage to throw that kind of stuff at you? The trouble is games throw all the new polygons they have to play with on making things pretty, not on sending more and more baddies at you...

Rhindle The Red #19 Posted April 5, 2005 Oh, and Final Doom is nothing spectacular, just a weasly way to milk the franchise. Well, depending on your point of view, it can also be described as a great story of fan participation. The two 32-level "stories" that make up Final Doom were full mods of Doom II with all new levels created by two groups of fans, intended to be nothing more than two more giveaway add-ons. They were seen by id software, who thought they were so good that they deserved a proper release as a legitimate part of the line. Thus, Final Doom was born. When it was released on PC, it also contained the "Doom Master Levels", which were even more fan-made levels, but without the connecting thread of being full 32-level mods, like the chapters of Final Doom. Serious Sam is about as close to a'Doom'-style FPS as you are going to get these days.

From what I read some people really dig the musical score (in PSX's Final Doom), so something good came out of it still. Doom 64 rocks man! It's almost a completely different game (thanks to it's exclusive levels and redone graphics and sound. I still think it's not for everyone though. Hey kisrael, have you tried Serious Sam? The game throw tons of enemies at you just like Doom. Even the GC version is not that bad.
+kisrael #22 Posted April 5, 2005 Yeah, I've tried Serious Sam, but...I dunno, it really didn't do it for me. I'm not sure what it is. Doom levels always felt like they had a sense of prurpose, but sometimes in Serious Sam is was just too blatantly "oh look, they've made it to be a trap whoopee" I forget, do enemy monsters in Serious Sam get mad at each other and fight? that was definately one of the cool things in DOOM... Dones #23 Posted April 5, 2005 Nope, enemies in SS don't fight each other, but I don't think this was intended for that game. Have you tried Doomsday?
Mr.FoodMonster #24 Posted April 6, 2005 I just found out about doomsday a week ago, and it is really really awesome.
