I will also be looking for hire a few people to work for me at the Video game Expo in Dallas this summer. If your interested please Pm me or talk to me in OK. I would like to have about 4 people work for me at the show over 3 days to help with set up and selling and pack up at the end. I would make it worth their time and If I get enough good help there would still be enough time for helpers to shop at the show and make some good money in the process. Call if interested 636-349-3113 and ask for Jason

Jason,

Are you going to the Expo in Dallas or CGE2K5? Both are the same weekend. I wish that I could do either one but both fall on my wife's birthday and I don't think that she would be too happy if I brought up the idea of going to either one.

I am going to dallas to sell games. I went to CGE last year and it was great dont get me wrong. Lots of great friends to meet up with at CGE but really I dont think I could sell $500 dollars worth of stuff at CGE. Everyone who attends CGE really only wants rare stuff. At philly last year I sold almost a van full of stuff. At the Video game Expo there will be tons of people for me to sell to and At this point i dont need to much more for my personal collections.

We have been doing some research (location scouting) for the documentary we will be filming while in Tulsa and was wondering why no one told us that the "Largest" McDonalds in the world was less than one hour from Tulsa...this would be prime place to film interviews. If no one wants to drive there, the nearest Whataburger (or Sonic) will do!!! we are going shopping for cowboy hats this weekend...

Enough of me, now listen to Game

Games N'at!!!

Hehe...so you found out about the Mickey D's near Vinita on I-44 did you? Well, it isn't nearly as impressive as it sounds and I really don't believe it to still be the largest now.

As for the cowboy hats, if you get some and wear them, you will NOT fit in with the general populace here in Tulsa. Believe it or not, we aren't still fighting the Native Americans here anymore. In fact, they damn near run the place?!

Seriously, you asked about the casino gambling earlier. I avoided answering only because I myself haven't partaken of it. So I can't answer it well. But in addition to the usual slots, the also just recently allowed card gaming. So Poker, 21, and Baccarat are now allowed to be gambled on in the state of OK.

I would save your money and avoid the 10 gallons in favor of buying up more stuff at the show! I know I would!

We weren't implying that all Oklahomers wear Cowboy hats...we were going to get them to not fit in. We wanted to be easily identifible, since apparently there will be no name tags. Trust us we're not the type to do things to fit in. As for the McDonalds we're actually glad to hear that it's not that impressive...the more depressing the better!!! It'll take something real low to bring us down, like no Lynx tourney. In all sincerity we really do appreciate the work and effort in putting this show together. The footage we get from our 4 days in Oklahoma will be a great addition to our film. Like we said before this is going to be legendary!

  • 2 weeks later...

Wow okay, so I'm late to the party. As many of you know I had to give up my tables this year as my wife's original due date was the same day as OVGE. The due date has been pushed back to the 4th of July, so it looks like I'll be able to come visit again this year after all -- only this time as a stinkin' paying attendee! :) After skimming this thread, I picked out a couple of things I wanted to comment on.

Does anyone know how the alcohol situation is in Oklahoma?  Like can you get beer and booze in supermarkets and mini-marts?  Or do you have to go through distributers?  Also what's the open container policy in those parts.

Beer here is 3.2. You can get beer some convenient stores, but not liquor. Liquor stores close at 9pm M-Sat and are closed Sundays. Open container in the car means DUI and jail. Don't try it.

We were doing some internet research about the eating (particularly fast food) situation in Tulsa...what's the deal with Whataburger?  We were a little disappointed there was no White Castle because we were looking forward to being rushed to floor by a sixer of chicken rings, two dozen sliders, washed three diet coke's of course at 4:00 am.  :D PS...what's the situation like at the Cherokee Casino?  Is it on the level?  Are there table games?  Does any one know the Texas Hold Em limits?

There are no White Castles in Oklahoma. The closest ones are in Kansas City, MO I believe. I know every time we drive to Chicago we stop in St. Louis and get some sliders.

As far as food is concerned, you are in a populated area and can pretty much find a restaurant in any direction. Vespertillo, Nine Juan Juan and I set out after the show last year and found some random Mexican place that turned out to be pretty good. I'm pretty sure there are McDonalds, Sonics, and all types of fast food joints within a block of the hotel.

As for the casino ... they all have slot machines but they're not real slot machines, they're pull tabs so don't bother. From what I've heard the card games are on the level. Also from what I understand they do not serve alcohol in the casinos here, and from the times my wife's gone she says you're doing good if you can get a Coke.

... how far of drive is Bentonville AK!

I JUST made that drive last weekend from Oklahoma City, going through Tulsa. From here to Tulsa is about 1:45, and the entire drive was just shy of 4 hours, so I would say basically two hours exactly.

We were also contemplating filming the whole weekend's activity for a documentary that we have been plaining...is this going to be a problem, and would anyone care to be interviewed for this...if so let us know.  We aren't going half-assed on this we are planning on tearing Tulsa up...we are so looking forward to boozin' and blazin' some stogies and just having one hell of a great time...I hope you are all this down!!!  And yes we are 100% serious!!!  Please someone step up and help some brothers out!!!

Let's git 'er done!

we are going shopping for cowboy hats this weekend...

As someone else mentioned, you will stick out as a big sore thumb. :) I don't know anyone who wears a cowboy hat, boots, or even owns a big belt buckle (that's not to say you won't see them adorned by some Tulsa locals).

I'll be the big guy with the shirt that says FLACK on the back. ;)

Thought I'd put out the feelers before I finalize my setup: if anything wants to see anything from my collection (you can get a pretty good idea by checking out my site), please let me know and I'll do my best to bring it along. I'm already once again planning on bringing the ever-popular Magnavox Odyssey and Odyssey2, the latter with the rare trackball controller and some rarities, imports 'n' homebrews. And since they were unexpectedly popular last year, the Coleco tabletop collection will be back again this year - in fact, I'm going to try to bring MORE of them that I didn't bring last year. (I figured they'd sit there all day and gather dust in '04 - instead, they were played more than anything else I had on display!) I'll also have PS1 retro-arcade compilations and imports aplenty, and I'm working on other goodies as well, hopefully a live hands-on demonstration of a rare piece of hardware or two. :D

Oh, and those who have always enjoy my video game-related toy displays, you're in for a treat this year. I've got some new additions to that collection too. ;)

If there are any other requests, though, let me know - I bring this stuff for you guys to look at and play. If I was showing up so everyone could watch me play, heck, I'd just have a couple of bare tables and I'd be kicking back with the GBA. :D

I'm just hoping I'll get the chance to go. My boss has decided to take his vacation the week that I was planning to take, the 12th through the 18th. He said he would give me the 18th off, but he's a jerk, and might not. And I don't even know how I'm getting there, anyway. Either I'll get a rental car, or I'll have to get my car worked on, just to ensure I don't break down in the middle of nowhere (since the route I'm taking has a whole lot of 'nowhere' along the drive).

Also, just a heads up! I have to redo the map on the location page of the website. The City of Tulsa is currently working on I-75 and actually have the exit for 71st street blocked off. It will be blocked for at least a year! Anyway, I have to make a new map that will have the detour routes on it to take. It isn't that big a deal really...just have to take either the 81st street exit of coming from the South or have to take the 61st street exit if coming from the North. Then you either turn right or left on Riverside drive to get to 71st that way.

Alas, I won't be able to bring the entire MegaManFan collection along with me to Tulsa, but for those who stop by my table (and hopefully browse my wares, which include a buttload of Atari 2600 games, many packaged with manuals) I promise a special treat - a special one-of-a-kind "Mega DVD" produced by yours truly. The DVD will feature clips of both well known and obscure/rare Mega Man games, set to my own personal selection of rock music and humerous audio quips. I'll leave it running during the whole show and switch back and forth between that and the video-modded 2600 (Kielbaca rocks) when people want to play one of my Atari Mega Man games or test out an item for purchase (although I personally tested all of the bagged items myself).

Wow, I've been so busy lately that this kind of crept up on me. I was planning on going fishing because I'd totally forgotten about this show. Forget fishing, I'll be headed to OVGE! Hope to see some of you guys there.

Also, just a heads up! I have to redo the map on the location page of the website. The City of Tulsa is currently working on I-75 and actually have the exit for 71st street blocked off. It will be blocked for at least a year! Anyway, I have to make a new map that will have the detour routes on it to take. Then you either turn right or left on Riverside drive to get to 71st that way.

It also worth mentioning that if you're coming into Tulsa on I-44, you can take the Riverside exit. Take Riverside Drive south two mile to 71st, take a left and you're there.

Oh and highway 75 is a state highway, not an interstate, just to avoid any confusion.

Good point about 75 being a state highway. The 71st street exit is currently closed off and will be for probably a very very long time. They are building a new mall out there and have it pretty buggered up roadwise. So, again:

If coming from the South such as southern Oklahoma, Texas..etc. Then take the 81st street exit. Turn right off the exit at which point your heading East. Go over the bridge (Crossing the Arkansas River), and the next intersection will be Riverside Drive. Turn left at this intersection which will have you going North. The next intersection should be 71st. Turn right at this intersection and the Marriott will be another block or so on the right.

If coming from the North such as Kansas, most of Tulsa etc. Then you will need to take the 61st street exit. Turn left off the exit which will have you going East. Cross the bridge over the Arkansas River again, and the next intersection should be Riverside Drive. Turn right here which will have you going South. The next intersection should be 71st street. Turn left here and look for the Marriott about a block or so on the right.

It is worth noting that it is really only easy to get into the Marriott from the Riverside drive area or bascially on the East bound portion of 71st street. They have a center median which blocks being able to turn in easily from 71st street if your heading West towards the River.

These instructions should be pretty easy to follow. You can still use the map provided on the site, but just remember that you can't use the 71st street exits. So either take the one before, or after and follow the streets from there to the Marriott. It really isn't that difficult at all to get there.

Stingray, see you at the show!
