If your wife DOES NOT have interest or like playing games with you. WHEN or WHAT time of the day do you find the time to play?

Usually at night when she's busy w/ something else or going to bed, or on weekends if she's working. I think she doesn't really care about my gaming, because it doesn't take away from "our" time, and I wouldn't want it to.

My wife has little to no interest in video games (she'll play the occasional classic on my MAME cab, but that's about it). However she has no problem with any of my strange hobbies. Video games, little British cars, scale modeling, I've even been known to build a siege weapon. She thinks the fact that I'm into kind of off the wall hobbies is neat.

As to when I play games, well she has hobbies of her own. She's a musician so I'll usually play games while she's playing her guitar, piano, violin or mandolin.

My wife enjoys videogames, but she probably would not ever buy one for herself. She plays some of the classics with me, but has been spending more time with modern games lately. she just beat Star Wars KOTOR on her own, and we are playing through the second one together.

Her favorite games are NES Gradius, Super Mario Bros, and any of the Zelda games. Gradius is easily her favorite...she plays the arcade version on my MAME cabinet too.

My wife loves Super Mario 3 and Mario Kart, thats about it. She also owns me in Super Mario 3 by the way. She had a NES as a kid, and I got a PC so she has it memorized. I got her to play Halo 2 and she hated most of it. Thats about it. I usually play games when she is reading her books. Once we have a baby though I doubt Ill ever get to play consoles anymore, and it will be time for portable gaming.

My wife has no more against classic games than she does against

video games in general. So long as they aren't overflowing in our

general living area, I suppose I could buy as many consoles as I

want/can afford. My wife doesn't much care for me >playing<

video games, though, so I wind up having collected a lot more games

than I have time to play. At least she doesn't mind that I play games

when she's not around...

My husband likes video games, just not as obsessively much as I do.

I think he wishes I didn't have the urge to collect every 2600 game, but

he likes having all the systems there to play when he wants.

If you have a row, do you threaten to put her piano in a trebuchet? :D

My wife puts up with my hobby and plays some games here and there on the 2600, 7800, Lynx, NES, PS1, Game Cube and Dreamcast.

However, she's told me I'll be living out in the yard if I bring home any more games and jumped for joy the day I sold off the Jaguar and that portable (luggable?) Commodore 64.

Ooops. I mean, I'll be living out in the yard if I bring home any more consoles (or, so sayeth The Wife).

Games for the stuff I already have are perfectly fine.

I wouldn't want to portray honey bunny in a false light, would I? :D

My wife tolerates it for the most part. Her father gave me my NES and SNES, so she had no choice! She enjoys gaming, but since our son was born, time is more limited, and she prefers spending an extra hour on the web or playing a quick PC game.

She does enjoy the older games more than the new, Tetris, Marble Madness and Dr Mario for example. She really likes our GBA SP and NDS as well.

She's not impressed with my Genesis, since she thought adding 4 systems to the collection in 1 month was a bit overboard (SNES/NES/Genesis/DS).

Me an hubbs have different tastes in games but since he's been working two jobs, it's been my task to catalog, list and organize the ever growing collections. I'm also cleaning and testing every game we have.*sigh* I've got 25 (I think) systems to go through (Plus movies). The house has now been taken over by boxes of video games, systems, strategy guides, TV's, DVD's, books, toys, baskets of clothes and well, companion animals. It's driving me more insane!

I was never really into gaming before meeting hubbs maybe had 2 GB games(Castlevania and Tetris), 9 PS games and 6-7 Gamegear ones ... Now we have 74 Gamegear, 138 PS, 68 PS2, and tons of GB-40/GBC-14/GBA-25 games.

I say if you can't change them, at the very least join them, but even better... beat the size of their old collections (if you can't beat them at playing the games). :P And at least this way I can pretend to have control over how to set everything up. 8)

We aren't really buying many new games right now. But if something comes up at a crazy price we both talk.

I usually scan the papers for yard sales if we go, and have a list of stuff we need for the house. So even if we don't find vid games hopefully there will be something else. When he's playing games I usually am either reading a book by him or cooking.

I would invite you guys for dinner but there's a 75gal tank on the dining room table temporarily. :P Didn't have a stand big enough for it and we never have formal dinners anyway. :ponder: I'm also going to be putting an indoor pond on the ground floor eventually too. *my wish*

I can't wait till the house is back in a semblance of order! *Hopefully* the other house will be sold by May/June then we can settle down and in for the long run. :D

Hmm. I'm wonder if we can form a spousal support group for our loved ones

:ponder:

Ive heard of flyfishing widows before, Im sure video game widows isn't all that far off. I always like to remind my wife that if she needs to yell at me, at least she knows where to find me. On the couch playing video games. Sure beats spending my time drunk at the bar. I just hope my children share my effinity for video games. My poor wife is a fly-fishing, jeep and video game widow. Maybe I should bring some flowers home and tell her how much I love her... :ponder:

My point was Im sure a group for this wouldn't be too far fetched, and Im sure there is going to be video game addicts groups. There are some out there, and It will only grow with time.

VGSA? Videogamer Spouses Anonymous

I was doing a search on an videogame ad I saw not to long ago related to this topic, but instead found lots of blogs and articles talking on the subject. Guess this is more of a problem than I thought.

I can only imagine it:

Spouse: "Hi my name is Karen, and my husband plays videogames!"

I know you said you probably won't make it out for PC6, but hey, if by chance you do, and you're up for it, I'll take you out to some local trout streams great for flyfishing :)

Used to love watching all the fish there as a kid. Many years ago though. We will hopefully be living out in Colorado then so Ill have plenty of new territory to cover with a fly rod.

My wife doesn't play video games at all. Once in a blue moon she will play Ms. PacMan or Frogger on the MAME cab.

However she loves doing the tag sale thing as a family on Saturday mornings.

Then, selling the duplicate games and systems on ebay usually provides a profit that goes right into our sons college fund, so she likes that too. She also likes to watch the ebay auctions.

When I first started collecting, she went to tag sales when I was away on a business trip. She called me thrilled to death that she found a Jaguar System and a couple games. I didn't have one yet so it was a huge find. She was as excited as I was.

She hates admitting that she thinks our basement has turned into a pretty cool arcade / retro gaming room, however, I do know she thinks it's pretty fun.

As for playing, I play 10 pm to midnight most nights of the week when she goes to bed.... but not every night ;) .

My wife tolerates my collecting but has absolutely no interest in video games herself (she did like Phantasmagoria on the PC but that's the only one I've ever gotten her to play) At one time she did have an issue w/ how big it was getting and wanted it gone, she still occasionally refers to it as clutter. We compromised and I build a 10x12 area using bookshelves in the basement (it's now grown to 10x16 ;) ) where I can keep all of my stuff. So long as it stays in there it's mine, if it overflows it's gone. Haven't lost anything yet :) Other than a few of the newer system hooked to the 5 TV's in house (one each) it's all contained in there. The area is getting extremely crowded and I'm currently building a CD rack across the ceiling to hold the various games I've run out of room to store on the shelves or in the video cabinet. She has told me that I can have a room for it when the kids move out (which will be quite awhile yet).

As for when I have time to play, it's usually at night after she's gone to bed, as long as she doesn't have other ideas :D or when she goes out w/ her friends. I'll also play whenever she's watching American Idle or any of the other "reality" shows she likes but I don't. She doesn't mind me playing so long as it doesn't get in the way of our time together.

Seems like a lot of us are in similar boats :D

In the same boat, for sure. Count me in the "I play games after the wife has gone to bed" crowd. Been doing that for years.

Well, if you all are having a fishing party please please include me in on that one. I'd even bring food and beer (if yall drinkwhile fishing) *bribe alert*! :D I won't go fishing alone - not quite safe anymore *grumble - sucks being female sometimes* and hubbs doesn't care to or have the patience for fishing. But he can sit for 8 hrs and play a Castlevania game - go figure. :P I don't have a fly rod anymore but I do still have a lightweight one. :)

And yes all you guys should bring your wives home flowers!!! If she likes to garden it's that time of year for stores to start stocking plantable ones - which IMO are even better!

That is an awesome idea! Many kudos!!!
