AtariAger #51 Posted April 8, 2005 Candiru's post in the, "So my wife ask's me this..." thread is priceless: If she's still noticing the addition of a few piddly carts it just goes to show that you don't have enough stuff yet.
pmpddytim #52 Posted April 8, 2005 My wife loves games. She has a pretty large NES/SNES collection and half the stuff in the game room is hers. Hell, she even said yes when I proposed with a donkey kong game. I couldn't have done better! Sometimes I come home and she has a pile of games she found in the wild while I was a work. Can't beat that. -Tim
Dones #53 Posted April 8, 2005 Oh man I forgot about that! That video game proposal was pretty cool but doesn't that makes your case an exception?

Zonie #55 Posted April 8, 2005 When I die, my wife is gonna have a helluva garage sale!!!! We have a "rocket widows club" in my local NAR chapter. You want a more spendy hobby? Try rocketry. Hell, I even bought a motorhome to participate in that one. (She will come if there is a comfy bed, hot shower, and Air conditioning as we launch in the desert) I'm doing the vintage gaming thing while I take a breather from ammonium perchlorate (rocket fuel) and rennovate the RV... when i get back into that one, i'll probably spend more time on the rocket forums. sandmountainslim #56 Posted April 8, 2005 My wife will play Dr. Mario on the NES and Stargate on the VCS but thats about it I get most of my gaming in while she watches her Godawful sitcoms and medical shows on TV or patrols Wal Mart
ClassicBoy #57 Posted April 12, 2005 Like most of you, my wife merely tolerates my videogame obsession. Just after we got married...koff13yearsagokoff...I would come home from work and find her playing Sonic 2 on the Genesis. Unfortunately, that was the first and last game she ever became interested in. I've tried, over the years, to get her interested in other games but it never "sticks." So, she tolerates but doesn't understand my desire to have so many systems and games. It doesn't help that I never have time to finish any of the long action/adventure type games (guess that's why I like the classics so much...play them as much or as little as you want, guilt free). She doesn't understand why I need new games from time to time when I haven't finished most of the ones I've got. She also doesn't understand why our kids need to have a separate system (gamecube, etc.) from Dad's systems. My kids are brutal on videogame systems despite my trying to teach them to treat systems like a fragile new puppy. I like to keep systems in "showroom" condition...it's a "collector's thing," I guess. The two don't jive. So, it's been tough to try and convince her that in some cases, two of the same system in one house are necessary. At any rate, as much as my wife doesn't understand, I have to give her tons of credit for putting up with my obsession and allowing me my fun.
shep #58 Posted April 12, 2005 I think its cool that your guy's wives go along with it...I hope my gal will be cool with me still playing video games and purchasing them often (though nowhere as near as much as some of you...get a life! kidding)
Atarifever #59 Posted April 12, 2005 Well, my girlfriend hints pretty hard about me proposing ("little" hints like "You should propose to me" and "So, when are you going to propose to me" and "I like that engagment ring, right there..yeah that one...buy it...buy it or die") so I hope that she stays cool with my gaming. She did put together my games room and she does play Blades of Steel with me almost every night so the outlook is pretty good. She also says "We'd have to put the systems in a seperate room whenever we have kids you can't have kids ruin stuff like that". That's nothing to do with me though, her little siter broke their NES (which my girlfriend loved more than anything else she owned at the time) when she (the sister) was like 4, so she dosn't trust kids with stuff like that. bergbros2 #60 Posted April 13, 2005 My wife loves the puzzle games like Chips Challenge and Shanghai for the Lynx and plays Alpha Centauri and Civilization III on the laptop. There is a great story in which I repeat endlessly where I met Sid Meier at Phillyclassic 4 and I told him how I got my wife hip to Civilization and one morning I woke up and found her still playing. She now curses Sid's name. Sid said sleep was overrated. She definitely does not play as often I do but she definitely allows me to indulge long as I don't make it all consuming. We have an understanding and reached a comfortable balance- alot of it on my own part. I haven't really bought any new systems or games. I realize that I got enough to last me a long time and that there are other things in life we enjoy together and have to do like exericse, meeting friends and family, etc.

atwwong #62 Posted April 13, 2005 My wife tolerates my Atari addiction. She enjoys scrapbooking and I tolerate that. We do join forces occasionally on our own husband-wife "megaprojects."

I'm in the same dilemna my son has not learned yet how to value his property. I've already had a gamecube die from overuse and MY xbox went on the fritz as well. The only reason he was using it was to play Halo 2 off the hard drive. NOT ANYMORE!! Once my xbox is repaired it is MINE, MINE, MINE. It took me three months to get all the stuff I wanted on it, and now all that hard work is lost. Anyways he does not seem to miss MY PS2 that I confiscated back, but once I get the flip top for it, he aint gonna see that one ever either (it has a hard drive in it as well). But I have an older PS2 he can use. Anyways I have once game cube and a cube controller that he somehow managed to get syrup on as well as a couple other controllers that got chewed on by the animals cause they were where they shouldn't be. I have a few systems that are either too expensive or too old that he does not even know about. I'd rather not run the risk of him breaking them. Like the PSP, DS, GP32. Shannon #64 Posted April 13, 2005 My wife actually is mostly ok with it. She usually tends to like games she had played as a kid. Anything else she usually does not bother with. I did manage to wrestle a room away from her for all my "junk". Anyways when she was pregnant I got her hooked on duke nukem 3d. We would spend hours playing that game co-op. There were also several SNES games that we would either play co-op or swap out when one of us died. She is actually pretty good with FPS's. What I think is funny is that my son is such a gunho kid. He just loves the bang, bang, boom games and is always running around re-enacting various war scenes from games and movies (like star wars, lotr, etc). Makes me wonder if all that dukenukem playing mighta influenced him. I think it was not until about age 4 that I even let him touch my systems. Me and the wife were playing co-op halo while he was sleeping and I think we went into the kitchen for food or something. Came back and he had a controller in his hand and was doing quite well. I was surprised.
BeerGnome #65 Posted April 13, 2005 Pretty much all the Nintedo consoles areound here were specificly purchased for the sole purpose of playing any iteration of Zelda. and zelda aint my game. I got her snes and the orcana of time for christmas, and she got me an xbox with grand theft auto. overall, she complaigns that her stigmatism keeps her from being co-ordinated enough to play many twitch games.. I was constantly saving her ass in halo.. and any thing that requires driving she is absolutly no good at.. when she plays GTA she walks around all over the place.. but we often have fun nights where we school each other on tetris worlds, god forbid I run that extra ten feet to hook the box into the router for live for that one.. but she's hardcore into vintage and antiques.. her primary job is waitressing, but she secondaries at an antique store and our connections in the antiques and vintage community is extensive.. for her my fasination with antiquated hardware is just an extension of her intrests.. and both of us have far too many hobbies to keep track of. I keep the older systems back here in the Den of iniquity where I have two T.V.'s rolling with the RF only devices, the network is also back here.. kinda.. home office/ game room.. all the more "modern consoles" are in the front room on the main entertainment center. I'd take some pictures, but I just had to send off the digital cam to the manufacturere becouse it crapped out on me, luckily, I'm just under the warrenty date *phew* essentially.. we put up with each other on this matter..
