MyIDE with 1Mb flash (boot-ROM) !!!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Steve Tucker and I have made a new production of MyIDE-interfaces in a

cartridge. The cartridge also has a 1 Mb (megabit) flashrom. The

flashrom will be sold standard with MyIDE-3.2F, basic rev_c and

assembler. This setup makes the cartridge 100% plug-and-play. When you

don't need the boot-OS, you can flash the cartridge with any other

software to you liking.

Pre-orderprice is set at 49.99 USD (40 euro).

Kind regards,

Sijmen (aka mr-atari)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

google forum:

At powerup, the cartridge switches on.

-loads the MyIDE 3.2F from flash (F=flashload, 3.1 based)

-asks if you like to boot with

0 no cart 48k

1 basic (rev-c) 40k

2 assembler 40k

3 flashcart (*)

(*) I do not know if this will be supported by Steve.

The myide-part uses banks 0,1,2,3 of the flash,

leaving banks 4 through 15 free for others.

This option justs switches on bank 4 and jumps to it.

My idea was to give Steve the freedom to adjust his

flash-program to pack any type of exe into this part

of the flashrom.

MyIDE-status will be permanently shown on screen. Just for

you to see if the drive is powerup and ready to go. Then

press 0,1,2,3 to start your atari-session.

holding OPTION will bypass the flash-rom, for easy reprogramming.

No warrenty how the end version will be, since I'm working on the

program ;-)

MyIDE supports standard IDE-drives and CF (zip not tested

by anybody yet). CF needs a CF-to-ide-adaptor. Theoretically

all devices following the ATA-protocol will work.

Kind regards,

Sijmen.

that's exactly how i want to have 8bit hardware... simple plug n play solutions...

so i could put all my game files on the harddisc? any specific regarding harddisc?

and this would be a nice quick test setup...

hmmm...i have some harddiscs lying around here... and some CF cards...

but i can't do anything with my ATRs? right?

If its anything like the current MyIDE setup you can add .ATR files into 'slots' - This are activated by selecting the starting slot and then you can choose up to 8 other disks afterwards.

For example:

Slot 10 - AR The City Side 1

Slot 11 - AR The City Side 2

...

Slot 18 - AR The City Player Disk

You start by picking SLot 10 - then during the game you press CTRL+# and it will choose the disk + # - so for Slot 11 you would press CTRL+1

However,

Not all programs are compatible with this setup so success will vary :(

I've got the MyIDE Image Manager (which deals with disk images on the myIDE hardware) working with Steve's new cartridge, as well as the other two programs I wrote for MyIDE.

You could use Mr.Atari's cartridge image (shown above) or you can burn the normal EXE menu to the cartridge and run any exe files you want (ie. my utilities).

I am also working on getting more stuff to work with it.

This is pretty cool.  What is the easiest way to externally power an IDE drive?  I think I have a spare 12gigger sitting around somewhere.

If you are using a 3.5" drive, you need a external PSU. One from a old PC will do fine.

But with a 2.5" drive, you only need 5 volt. This can be drawn directly from your Atari. But be aware, you need the older 1.5 amp Atari-PSU then.

The same goes for CF-cards, then any standard Atari-PSU give enough power.

My post from Monday apperently got lost due to the transition to the new forums.

It was about how MyIDE-works. Better download the manual from my homepage.

Cheers!

What I've done with mine is obtain an old enclosure from an external Mac HD or CD. This has a little power supply in it and looks a little nicer than just a drive sitting on your desk. Run the IDE cable out the back.

Yeah I was thinking something more along these lines.

I'll have to read-up on how myIDE works cause I've never actually heard of it.

Yeah I think I'll probably end up getting on of these. Although I have SIO2PC adapter it can be inconvenient to drag my atari into the same vincinity as the PC just to play stuff.

I already have a 10gig sitting around (which is perfect) that aint gonna get much use anyways because of it's size.

Just need to pick a external case/power supply at some point when I can afford it.

  • 1 month later...

It looks like he sells them on his home page; if you go to the link and look at the left column, you will see 'atari collectibles/toys' section.

EDIT: never mind, I thought it was stuff he sells, but I guess it's just his own personal collection of Atari stuff.

Where did you get that cute little 800XL toy? Did someone make it for you?

It's paper cut-out of a basic manual :-)

Shown are the graphic-keys.

Cheers,

Sijmen.

Did you checkout the matrix-demo. It runs on a MyIDE-interface.

Click on it and you get a MPG captured from my 800XL.

Data-rating is 60 kbytes / seconds with 6kHZ IRQ for sound !!!!

(this is 200x sio-speed compaired to a stock 1050)
