jeepnut24 #1 Posted April 7, 2005 I love video game golf. (Love the real thing more ) What is the best golf game on the NES? Now that I have one, a NES, I need to track down a great golf game for it. There seem to be plenty to choose from. So far Ive played Nes Golf which is on a multi cart that I have. Other than that, nothing. You all provided plenty of help before and Im sure you will this time, so thanks a bunch.
Dones #2 Posted April 7, 2005 My favorite golf game for the console is NES Open Tournament Golf. I am not a sports fan, but this game had me hooked for a while. It has battery backup, nice graphics and it's fun to play with a friend.

Campy, but nice, graphics - decent game mechanics - somewhat realistic yardages. Not bad at all.
StanJr #4 Posted April 8, 2005 For my money its either Jack Nicklaus Greatest 18 Holes of Championship Golf or Atlus Golf Grand Slam. Both are exceptional. Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf is pretty good too. I've not played Greg Norman's Golf Power, but I hear great things. I love video game golf, and am on a quest to have all the NES golf games. Avoid NES Golf.
Dones #5 Posted April 8, 2005 That was the very first one that came out right?
jeepnut24 #6 Posted April 8, 2005 Thanks, hadn't heard of a few of those. Ill have to keep my eye open for them. Any others out there?
Inky #7 Posted April 8, 2005 I LOVE the original NES Golf. I dunno why, but I always could put that one in and play it for a very very long time!
Jess Ragan #8 Posted April 8, 2005 Golf Grand Slam gets my vote. It looks great, plays great, and sounds... well, two out of three ain't bad! But it's a mighty fine simulation of the sport, with bright, colorful graphics and an easy to use, but full-featured interface. Nintendo's second golf game was also quite excellent, although I didn't care much for the first one. JR
Dr. Morbis #9 Posted April 8, 2005 I'll say Open Tournament Golf. Jack Nicklaus comes a close second but it has one glaring flaw: it's way too easy to hit the flagpole. I can't get through a full round of golf without hitting the flagpole at least 3 times. One time I hit it 7 times!!! What are the odds of hitting the pole in real golf? It must be like 1 in 10,000. I know I've never done it during a real game.
Jess Ragan #10 Posted April 8, 2005 Jack Nicklaus would not have been on my list of top NES golf games. It takes soooo looong to draw the screens, and when you see them you wonder why you bothered to wait so long for them. JR
JerseyDevil #11 Posted April 8, 2005 I LOVE the original NES Golf. I dunno why, but I always could put that one in and play it for a very very long time! Same here. Its easy to pick up and play and it doesn't take forever to play 18 holes.
figgler #12 Posted April 8, 2005 Indeed I vote for NES Golf and NES Open too. NES golf is the best pick up and play title of them all I think. I even still enjoy it on the GBA via e-Reader. NES open is quite good too, but I find the learning curve to be a tad steep at first
StanJr #13 Posted April 8, 2005 The main problem with NES Golf it does not tell you your distance to the pin after the tee shot. You just have to guess. I suppose that's like real golf, but if I wanted to play real golf I'd put the NES away and drive down the street. Yeah, Jack Nicklaus is a pretty easy golf game, back when I played on the Men's Tee, I could hit the flagpole on every hole, every time. That sucker must be BIG. But now I play on PRO Tee and its MUCH harder. It does take a while to draw the screen, but I don't think its too bad. Better than Trevino. Atlus Golf Grand Slam has one of the best and most unique interfaces I have ever seen on a golf game. Part of the reason I love it so much.
vdub_bobby #14 Posted April 8, 2005 The main problem with NES Golf it does not tell you your distance to the pin after the tee shot. You just have to guess. That's one of the things I like about NES Golf. It's a fun little game, especially (but not only!) with two players.
