I always have one maker I stick with and get after the price drops (right now that would be sony, before that Nintendo) The other makers and systems I just wait for them to become used sales for the most part.

I never have and probably won't, due to the fact that the first wave of machines are generally unreliable and expensive (like the PS2 and Xbox respectively). If, however, Sega do - as I suspect they will - release a new console then I'll being whacking my money down at Lik-Sang for the very first one in to the country!

I only buy launch consoles if they already have a worthy game on them.

For the GameCube, it was Smash Bros. and Pikmin (I bought it close to launch, but not quite.)

For the DS, it was Mario 64DS and the promise of many good Mario games in its future.

For the PSP... LUMINES!!!!

I bought my GCN at launch because I love Nintendo's titles and I thought and still do think that Nintendo had it right with this one (but were screwed over after the 64 because so many people went to Sony during the PSX days, including consumers). But I loved the launch titles and the titles that came out fairly close to after the launch. Plus the promise of a new Zelda title. Yum.
