Is there any advantage to using a SMS instead of Power Base?

Is there any advantage to using a SMS instead of Power Base? Does one lack features or compatibility?

Some games don't work properly on the Power Base (Montezuma's Revenge and F-16 Fighting Falcon come to mind), but the number of games that don't work is small. There really isn't much of an advantage to using a real SMS.

The instructions for the Power Base Converter only mention F-16 Fighting Falcon as a game that cannot be used with it. For Montezuma's Revenge, it just says you need to use the original SMS controller. Are there graphical or gameplay glitches with Montezuma's Revenge?

No just the controller issue. I wasn't aware that the problem could be fixed by just using the SMS controller.

It's been said that some of the Brazilian games wont work properly on the regular SMS, but do work on the power base. Games like Mortal Kombat III and Street Figher II. The 8Meg ones.

Another solution to playing Motezuma's revenge on the Power Base and not have to use an actual SMS controller...hehe..

 

Would you believe that the game works just fine using a 7800 controller?! Yeap, that is how I play my copy of SMS Monty on my PBC. The normal 7800 controllers don't bother me as much as they do some, but I would imagine for those who can't stand the 7800 default controller, the 7800 gamepad would work as well.

I haven't been able to get Alien Syndrome to work with the PBC.

The game starts, but the character constantly moves left. Could this be a controller issue though? (I use a Genny 6 button)

Here's my list of games that don't work with genny controllers. You have the same

problem whether pbc or sms console, so don't blame the pbc. The root cause seems

to be bad game programming that outputs a switching signal to control pin 7.

Actually, my power base convertor won't play SF2 or VF Animation, but my SMS will just fine. It's the SMS with Snail Maze, Hang On, and Safari Hunt.

Don't you need the original SMS to play the Credit Card style games? Or Does the Power base actually have this slot? I use the Master Gear Converter instead, and it works fine for me, but I can't play my Spy vs Spy ccard game.

The Power Base Converter will run all but 1 card game.

And by most accounts, the one that doesn't work isn't really worth it anyways.
