Alex #1 Posted January 18, 2002 I was looking through some of our ROMs, and these appear to be PAL on our site: Motorodeo Obelix Spider Maze (K-Tel) Anybody have NTSC versions?
Tempest #2 Posted January 18, 2002 I think I have the NTSC Motorodeo rom (I believe it's on the DP rom page), and I have a NTSC Obelix cart that I can dump if no one can come up with the rom. Tempest
Thomas Jentzsch #3 Posted January 18, 2002 Obelix was one of the NTSC-hacks I did send to AtariAge some weeks ago. Would be quite interesting to compare with the original NTSC version.
Tempest #4 Posted January 18, 2002 It's never been dumped? I didn't know that. Hopefully I can get a hold of that NTSC Asterix proto I saw and we can have a matched set. Tempest
Alex #5 Posted January 18, 2002 I don't know if it's been dumped or not, I just know that the only one I have is PAL. Is there going to be anyone at PhillyClassic with a dumper? And I'm not sure what you meant in that post, but we do already have the NTSC Asterix ROM. As for Motorodeo, I did a quick check on DP's site and didn't see it, so if you have it I'd love to get a copy.
Tempest #6 Posted January 18, 2002 You already have the NTSC Asterix rom? I wasn't sure if it had been dumped (John has a proto of it). I'll check out my Motorodeo rom when I get home. Tempest
Alex #7 Posted January 18, 2002 Yep, the NTSC Asterix ROM is already on the site. This came up about a month ago and we got it from Cav. Obelix and Moto I just finally got around to checking with z26 after someone emailed me about it. Also the K-Tel Spider Maze we have appears to be PAL. It also has the Funvision logo at the bottom of the screen. Is this Funvision's Spider Monster? I believe it's the same game, but does the K-Tel version have that logo? I don't know who made it first, and I don't have the actual cartridge to check. But this may be another one we need to fix.

I believe I have K-Tel Spider Maze, I'll dump it when I get home tonight if someone else hasn't sent us a dump by then. ..Al
Albert #9 Posted January 22, 2002 We've dumped my Spider Maze cart and put the ROM online for those who might want to try it on a television (say, using a Cuttle Cart on a real 2600). We also took some new screenshots. Enjoy! ..Al
ScoobyDoo #10 Posted January 22, 2002 I think I might have the NTSC Obelix ROM. Good2600 recognises it as obelix_(atari). If you want it PM me with an email address and I'll send it over.

I have that Obelix version and it's PAL too. If you test it with z26, use Alt+9 and it will tell you the number of lines (~262=NTSC, ~312=PAL) Tempest, when will you dump your Obelix NTSC? Tempest #12 Posted January 23, 2002 I can bring Obelix to Philly and dump it there. I honestly didn't know it was that rare. I assumed most of the long time collectors had one (and it had been dumped). I paid $35 for it on Ebay becuase I had to take a chance (the seller didn't know if it was PAL or NTSC). jahfish #13 Posted January 23, 2002 there's actually two versions of obelix around here in germany. one written "obélix" with a P on the cart, and one "obelix" without the P and a slightly different design. i'm not sure, but i think the second run without the P actually works on both systems. at least i sold it to a us collector and he never complained, just wrote "the cart arrived and it works great" i'll make a scan for you later. probably the same thing happens with the asterix cart. i am not sure, but it might be possible that the later releases had some sort of support for both modes. Tempest #14 Posted January 23, 2002 I still think it was released in Canada and that's why it comes in NTSC. Tempest
MattyXB #15 Posted January 23, 2002 I have bith scans on my Website if someone will see them. Both Asterix and both Obelix. When someone will see the diffrents about the carts.

I'm pretty sure it saw NTSC release in the US, although obviously not in large numbers. A few years ago I used to frequent a big flea market in Central PA, and I found a boxed one for $1. Over the next 2 or 3 years, nearly every collector I ran into there said they had either found one in the wild or had bought one new. Freakishly high occurrence rate for such a rare game.
