+kisrael #1 Posted April 12, 2005 I got the collector's edition of DOOM 3 for Xbox for Doom I and II, and it's great, they're like old friends...but the trouble is they made it way too easy to activate powerups, especially if you're one of those players who holds sprint down all the time. Like temporary incisibilty is sprint plus "space bar"/open key 4 times...very easy to activate when you're hunting for a hidden door. Also in Doom2 I'd say they screwd up the order of the weapons, putting the super shot gun above the rocket and chainsaw, not next to the regular shotgun where it belongs. Sometimes these porters just don't think.
Flojomojo #2 Posted April 12, 2005 Kirk, how are the graphics? Smoothed at all? Is there mouselook? I don't think Doom 3 is for me, but maybe I'll be able to find the oldies loose and used by themselves in a couple of weeks, a la Grand Theft Auto III. Unfortunately, the versions of Doom 1 and 2 are actually on the disk with Doom 3. I was surprised that there is a completely different pressing for the Collector's edition disk vs. the regular one. I assumed that there was going to be an extra disk in the box...just one. What is mouselook?
Flojomojo #4 Posted April 12, 2005 Yeah, I realized that soon after posting this. Too bad for me; then again, I already have several versions of Doom (PC, Playstation, N64, Dreamcast, NUON), so it's no big deal. Maybe I can snag it all in a Greatest Hits version bundled with Hexen or something. Mouselook is a 3D look feature enabled in later first-person shooters. It allows you to look around by moving the mouse rather than pointing the way you're walking. XBOX and PS2 games accomplish the same thing by using one analog stick for movement and the other for looking/aiming.
Dones #5 Posted April 12, 2005 Amazing how we take little things like mouselook for granted.
chairmonkey4406 #6 Posted April 12, 2005 Do Doom and DoomII have Live play?
keilbaca #7 Posted April 14, 2005 if you use the pc, they made whats called zdaemon. Pretty much its a server type doom II People even made custom maps and played the game. This happend 6 months ago
Jasoco #8 Posted April 14, 2005 As someone who doesn't use Mouselook, (Hates it to death) hasn't played Doom on a PC in years and is tired of the bug in my OS X Doom engine that keeps bringing up the Console, I can honestly say I am 100% happy with the Xbox ports of DOOM I and II. But yes, the damn cheats are too easy to activate. They should have made a menu instead. The Xbox controller was made for DOOM I must say. Halo 2 was a big disappointment. DOOM 3 was not. Osbo #9 Posted April 14, 2005 Now I have a good excuse to pick up Doom 3 later today. I used to play multiplayer doom on sundays with my friends, what a blast! Doom, beer and hamburguers, good memories
Artlover #10 Posted April 14, 2005 Halo 2 was a big disappointment. DOOM 3 was not. 836808 It takes longer to finish then Halo2 too!
Jasoco #11 Posted April 14, 2005 Halo 2 was a big disappointment. DOOM 3 was not. 836808 It takes longer to finish then Halo2 too! 836873 Not in my case. I gave up. I gave up on Halo 1 as well when it refused to save my game after the Library.
Duke 4ever #12 Posted April 15, 2005 Halo 2 was just the same old crap. I have DOOM 3 for Xbox and I love it.

Osbo #14 Posted April 15, 2005 great, I drove two hours to get to the store, they have only one Doom 3 left, got it, and when I've got home 'ohh Doom and Doom II are in the collectors edition CD" that's just f*cking great...
xenomorpher #15 Posted April 15, 2005 That was probably one of my main reasons to get Doom 3 in the Collector's Edtion. For Ultimate Doom and Doom II. I enjoyed both very well and I really really like Doom 3. I liked the concept art, very neat. I am going to have to get some controllers so my friends and I can play the classic Dooms all together. I am glad they added multiplayer, it was a nice touch.

Osbo #17 Posted April 15, 2005 Well, I didn't know, there's nowhere in the case that says 'does not include Doom or Doom II', good thing I didn't tear the case plastic appart, I'm gonna have to drive again and return it.
Jasoco #18 Posted April 15, 2005 Cross your fingers and hope they have a CE left.
Osbo #19 Posted April 15, 2005 Well, I went to K-mart since Wallmart didn't want to exchange it. They have two left, I've got one, and a guy was behind me got the other one. But in my way back, I stoped in a Fleamarket I never saw before, and burried under the old keyboards I found a mint loose Tandy 128K and works perfect! pmpddytim #22 Posted April 18, 2005 The Doom 3 CE is one of the first titles I'm picking up when I get my Xbox. I watched the trailer on the web last night and that was fantastic. Can't wait to get my hands on it. -Tim
