Question about SM64

Recommended Posts

how the hell do I get the poles in Dire, Dire Docks level? I need to get the 8 red coins in the lake where the sub is, but I can't get the poles to show up, is there anything I need to do? Thanks

I don't think you have to do anything special to get the poles to show up... but you might have to actually accomplish the first task (Board Bowser's Sub) before that one, since the levels change after some of the objectives.

Did you select the proper star at the start of the level? Each level has six 'variations' which vary slightly depending on the star you are shooting for.

First of all, you have to make sure you are in the correct Star.

You then have to activate the boxes that form a staircase and get up to them. They're ALWAYS there, you just can't always use them.

Find the switch. The purple ! switch on the floor. Find it! It's there!

ok, thanks for the tips.... let me tell you guys what I have done so far in that level, I've got all the stars, except the one for the 8 red coins. after I activate the switch, I get up to the plataform to the left, where the first red coins is, after that, nothing, no poles moving around or nothing. I'm selecting the right star, and so far nothing in the level has changed, the sub still there for example... I'll give it another try later

thanks!

My mind is fuzzy but don't you need to use the cannon to reach the poles? That's the way I used to do it.

Are you talking about "Dire Dire Docks" or "Jolly Roger Bay"?

"Jolly Roger Bay" is the level with the boat that you raise up from the bottom of the ocean. "Dire Dire Docks" starts with you in a deep pool of water that require swimming to get to where most of the stuff is. (People confuse the two all the time.)

Anyway, there's a "red coin" guide on GameFaqs.:

It should answer all your questions.

If there's a cannon, then you're talking about "Jolly Roger" and the three spiked poles. The easiest way is to aim a bit above the pole. The leftmost one. Then aim and jump down onto the platform to get the Star.

I 'think' I know what to do next, I have to defeat bowser in the fire world, but, I think I did it already, but I'll do it again, thanks!

No, the poles are physically not there, untill you do something else in the game. I believe you have to beat the first Bowser battle befor the polls show up. If you've already done that, it may be the second. I remember something like that was needed befor the polls would show up on one of the levels. Hope that helps.

dire dire docks. You need to defeat bowser in the hole that's right before you under that level. Did it and after I came back to the level, the sub was gone and the poles where there moving in the roof.
