Atarifever #1 Posted April 19, 2005 Does anyone remember a Sega Genesis game called Zero Tolerance? It was a FPS and I thought it was great. I was just playing it again yesterday and remembered how much I liked it. Anyway, anyone know if this was just a genesis title or if it was out for other systems or PCs? Also, anyone else like it (I get the feeling it was one of those games not a lot of people liked)?
YarsRevengeFan #2 Posted April 19, 2005 Yep, I remember Zero Tolerance. At the time I could not afford a computer or a 32X for the Genesis, so I was happy there was a FPS. Actually, now that I think about it, I barely remeber what the screens looked like, and how it played, but I do remember the cover of the game. I believe you were on a space station right? Needles Kane #3 Posted April 19, 2005 I have this game. You're on a space station trying to defeat aliens or something. For a Genesis FPS, it's great. It's a little slow and not full screen, though. Plenty of weapons and power-ups, lots of different enemies, and what seems like a million levels.

There's a lot to be said for having a flame thrower at that point.
Pinball Wizzard #5 Posted April 19, 2005 There also beta of ZT sequel called Beyond Zero Tolerance. Both games now are in public domain.
Classic Pac #6 Posted April 19, 2005 I have the original CIB sitting on a counter just above my monitor and it is one of my favorite games
JB #7 Posted April 19, 2005 All I know is that it used the 2nd controller port for a system link cable.
davepesc #8 Posted April 19, 2005 I love Zero Tolerance. I always wished that it used more of the screen - a 1/4 screen ID card, come on, but for me, it was my first FPS. I'm not a fan of the genre, but I love me some ZT and Doom.
SteveW #9 Posted April 19, 2005 Wasn't there another FPS on the Genesis? I remember reading something about it in a magazine back then. But I didn't pay that much attention, since I was playing Doom on my Jaguar.
Pinball Wizzard #10 Posted April 19, 2005 There actually FOUR MORE FPS 3D-actions on Mega Drive! Bloodshot (Battle Frenzy) - very good, has split screen cooperative and deathmatch modes. Corporation (Cyber-Cop) - Tough to play (you just wandering around without knowing what to do) but atmospheric with strong cyberpunk fleur. Star Cruiser - Mix of FPS, space-sim and RPG - fantastic for it`s time (1990 or like) - graphics, music, gameplay, but only japanese version exists. Duke Nukem 3D - some developer from Brazil made it. Good graphics, but in all other aspects it`s very bad game.
Jess Ragan #11 Posted April 19, 2005 Bleh, Corporation barely qualifies as a game. I've found better things under my toenails... and seen faster things with eyes on stalks and shells on their backs. JR
Brad2600 #12 Posted April 19, 2005 I used to own a copy of Zero Tolerance. It was ok in my opinion but nothing special. I might still have it somewhere.
jesusc #13 Posted April 20, 2005 for some reason, Zero Tolerance was one of the fewFPS I could play without getting hedaches/nausia. For it's time, I thought it was great. If you shot a wall, it showed damage. Enemies blood would splash against the walls. Small details like that made it cool. A friend and I actually hacked together a cable for system linking for this game, yet never did link up. Cable is probably still sitting in the back of my closet somewhere. Gregory DG #14 Posted April 20, 2005 There also beta of ZT sequel called Beyond Zero Tolerance. Both games now are in public domain. 839929 Hmmm... That's interesting. I remember what a hard time I had finding the ROMs for both games a few years back. I think the developer was actively going after ROM sites that hosted them. I feel like Sean Penn at the end of T. A. P. S. yelling "it's beautiful, man, it's beautiful!" Someone was asking earlier about you being in a space station...let's see, I think it starts off in the space station, moves to your company's building, then several more levels in the basement before you get to the end. It was a good game, but by the time you get to some point in the building, you have to start stocking up on bullets for your pistol, since you run out of ammo for EVERYTHING. There's no warning this is going to happen, which is a crappy way to make a game, if you ask me.

The last place I got to back when I was actively trying to get through it was real deep in the building. There were only the strongest type of aliens and they were everywhere. Add to this the fact that I had almost no ammo and there isn't any to be picked up anywhere and it is clear why I gave up without finishing. It is weird that this happens after a bunch of levels where there is more ammo than there is empty space. I am having a similar problem with Red Faction on the N-Gage, except in that there isn't ever any ammunition, so it's not a crazy suprise at the end. It's starting to come back to me now! ) where there's humans everywhere, and they use the regular guns/ammo. So you shoot them and collect their ammo as you go. Granted, there was no way for you to know that ahead of time, and that's what sucks. (Speaking of "sucks", so does the ending, so you didn't miss a whole lot anyway. Well, except for the very last level being REAL creepy...)

Fellow Atari Man #19 Posted April 30, 2005 Actually, now that I think about it, I barely remeber what the screens looked like, and how it played, Maybe these shots will help jog your memory Hmmm, what's behind the door? With the slime, you'd think it's a job for the Ghostbusters, but it's not... Here's the great crabs that I love shooting down from the ceiling! These guys are like Ringwraiths where they can't see very well; when you start running out of ammo, you can literally punch them to death if you have to. The last section of the game starts getting VERY creepy, looking like you're in hell.
Atarifever #20 Posted April 30, 2005 That game does look pretty slick for a Genesis FPS though, doesn't it. I think I'm going to start it over soon and see if I can finish it this time.
Fellow Atari Man #21 Posted May 1, 2005 That game does look pretty slick for a Genesis FPS though, doesn't it. 847075 Yeah, those involved in the gaming industry said that an FPS could NOT be done for the Genesis, but it was...but that's why it runs fairly slow, no running in this game like in Doom.
