So what's your favorite space shooter? I'm picking galaga. Arcade galaga was my first and favorite shooter as a kid and recently i've come to like the turbografx version (galaga '90) even more.

I would have chosen Zanac, RayStorm or Axelay but those are not in your poll :(

Sorry man,I should've put Axelay in there. That's a really good one and I totally forgot about it. As for Zanac I've never heard of it. What system(s) was it on?

I think it was originally a MSX game but it also got ported to NES (that's where I played it). It's from the guys at COMPILE, who are also known for their Aleste series. Around 2001 they released a sequel for PS1 called zanacXzanac. It has the original 8-bit Zanac plus an all new sequel called "Zanac Neo".

NES, mainly.

There was a PS1 update, and the original was ported a few times.

That's nice to know. I'll have to check out the nes version. Too late to put it in the poll but thanks for letting me know about this game. :)

Worship Galaga and all it stands for !

A slightly off topic question...

Do you pronounce it "GA la ga" (the 'GA' sounding like the word 'gal') or

"ga LA ga" (the "gala" sounding like you would say 'Galaxian'.)

The first example the emphasis is on the 'GA'

The second the emphasis is on the 'LA'

I have a Galaga, and whenever someone new sees it, I am so surprised to hear

how the pronunciation is split about 50 / 50.

I always say it with the emphasis on the GA, but it really is 50 / 50.

umm...yeah, your missing a LOT of great shooters: my favorites are 1942 and Raiden, neither of which are in the poll and BOTH are classic hits! Null vote for me...

wow Asteroids, Galaga and Tempest in the same poll!!?? Maybe I should of picked

Galaga, because it is the one I enjoy/enjoyed most over the years (esp Galaga 90

for the TG-16 and Deluxe Galaga for the Amiga as well as the arcade versions) but

I have a soft spot for Asteroids (and it's variants) it's just such a classic...

Yeah man, prefer LS1 to LS2 though. The saturn is the most kick ass shooter console. Thunderforce 5 anyone?

Space Invaders

1. It created the genre

2. It was the first arcade game I ever played

3. I have one in my game room
