R-type 1 and 2,what systems?

Recommended Posts

I know the original R-type is on both the sms and tg-16 but was it on the nes as well? And how about R-type 2,what systems was that on? Just wondering, I wouldn't want to be missing out on any good nes,sms or TG games.

PCEngine/TG16 had it.

Assuming you only want vintage.

Both also have a PS1 release on the disk "R-Types".

...

Which, I must add, has THE BEST GAME DESCRIPTION EVER.

Back of box text is worded like a wanted ad.

"RType is an equal opportunity destroyer."

Saw a full list...

http://www.irem.co.jp/official/r/j/collection/index.html

There it is.

First set is irem-developed releases in Japan.

Second is 3rd-party-developed releases in Japan.

Third is international releases(and a quite incomplete list, sadly).

Feed it to BabelFish if you need some of the japanese translated.

If you are referring to the PCE Hucard version(s), that is only "R-Type" released as Part 1 and Part 2 and not actually "R-Type 2" - they were only releasing 2Mbit Hucards at the time... they put both halves together for the TG16 version.

Ah, poo. Side note... I hate split games.

Still the CD version, though. That's got both, I believe.

...

Or am I wrong again?

Edit: It appears I am. The CD was just RType 1, albeit in one piece and with cutscenes.

The CD also has a great soundtrack... well worth the import if you have a Duo.

I believe the Japanese version of R-Type on the PC Engine has an alternate ending with a boss

for level 6 (this would be on the second "half" of the 2 R-Type 1 cards). I saw some

pictures in a Japanese guide to PC engine and it looked pretty cool. I've never been able

to play that version, though.

The PS1 "R-Types" game is a very good version of R-Type 1 and 2, and worth finding.

I would advocate MAME, the closest you can get to the real thing without shelling out $1000s. But the Turbo Grafx-16 version is dead-on accurate. I remember when I had a Turbo Grafx-16 NEC had a "buy two, get one free in the mail" promotion. The games on the list didn't look too impressive, but R-Type was on it so I got that (it took seemingly forever to get to me.) I spent many, many hours with that game and couldn't ever get past the level 4 boss. The game's difficulty level increases until it becomes extreme.

I diagree about the Turbo Duo soundtrack, I hated it so much that when I downloaded an ISO of it I didn't even bother to transfer it to a CD-R. The Commodore 64 version has the same soundtrack (plus a cool loading tune for the tape loader) that may sound better than the original arcade.

It isn't a soundtrack you are going to listen to in your car when you are out cruising for fresh meat.... but if you follow market prices (not downloading ISOs), the US Hucard and the R-Type Complete SCD sell for about the same price.. therefore I would consider the SCD worth the import for the Duo owner.
