Best replacement Desktop

Hi guys

 

Just wondered, I currently use Magic 6 as my OS on my Falcon, I was wondering what you guys thought about the many repleacement desktops out there, I was hoping to install one to use with Magic but don't know which is the best one.

 

Let my know your views.

I am using Thing desktop, I like it more than jinnee although Thing has some limitations with filenames longer than 32 chars.

Using Magic 6 & Jinnee 2.5

 

Tried Thing, its nice its fairly powerful, but its pathetic when compared to Jinnee.

 

You might be able to get hold of EASE which was the fore-runner to Jinnee and thats still a hell of a serious option.

 

To be fait however, Both Jinnee and Ease can get memory hungry, especialyl if like me, you like to have a billion icons installed ( Ok, slight exageration ) so 4MB STE is an absolute minimum I would recommend with these while THING isnt as much.

 

Those are my choices anyway

 

1 - Jinnee

 

2 - Ease ( v3.2 was better than v4 I thought although I can remember if v3 handled LFN's? )

 

3 - Thing

I really like Neodesk 3, though I know it's probably much older than the above mentioned, Neodesk 4 looks to be really cool too. But I'm still using TOS 2.5, though someday I will upgrade to Mint or Magic or whatever, but in the meantime, do Thing, Jinee and Ease work well with TOs or are they made for the multitasking OS's only? Or is Neodesk better for standard TOS? I know that Neodesk is supposed to be good with Mint&Magic and whatnot according to the Neodesk documentation.

Thing works great also in single TOS environment. I am using it with both TOS and MiNT withuot problem
