Osmeroid #1 Posted January 30, 2002 I've gotta ask, was anyone else a member of Activision's CGL club? The one where you got an enormous membership card (I had a red and a green one) I used to get newsletters from them (could also pick them up from retailers though). These contained the stats for attaining badges and competitions to win games and (once) to win a bizzare round candy dispenser. On a similar vein, did any of you ever have any of the Parker Bros fold-out pamphlets? I had 4, they contained "related information" to one of their recent releases. One was about Amidar, with single leaves mentioning the game, local events about it's release etc. and opened out to a wall poster describing the body lanuage of gurillas? I also had Q*bert!, Spiderman and Tutankham fold-outs too. Unfortunately, I lost these and many other catalogues and bits of Atari bric-a-brac several years ago. I would love to hear about anything else like these.
Albert #2 Posted January 31, 2002 I've never seen any of the materials you described, but it sure would be cool if someone could come up with them. That is, if they're not already floating around on the net somewhere. I wasn't a member of the Activision club, or even Atari's, for that matter. I considered myself lucky to even have a 2600 back then! ..Al
Osmeroid #3 Posted January 31, 2002 I gathered these back in late '81 through to '83. One of the Activision newsletters was dark green and carried the pre-release info about Pitfall. These were quarterly newsletters. I can't remember how I got hold of the Parker Bros material, again I think I received them through the post. I'd really like to see some of these pieces again, especially the Spiderman one that opened out to a large poster of (suprisingly) Spiderman and the Green Goblin. liveinabin #4 Posted January 31, 2002 That sounds great. I am such a newbie, in 82 I was firmly in the Sinclair computers camp. Kinda wish I'd been there for the Atari years, though I could never have afforded the games.
Osmeroid #5 Posted January 31, 2002 I was only about 9 or 10 at the time and compulsively picked these things from games and department stores. Catalogues and leaflets seemed to be littered about quite liberally back then (I remember when I was a lad......) A little off topic (OK, completely off) talking of Speccies, do you think that Jet Pac would make a great conversion to the 2600? If memory serves, Jet Pac was only 12K in size. I was thinking about how several of the old home computer games could cross-over to the 2600, especailly the Ultimate games (Trans Am, yeah!). Atic Atack? Just a thought. I think Jet Pac was 16K but remember - thats 16K for the game plus 8K dedicated memory for screen display so the game would in-fact need 24K to run (on a speccy). I think. A 48K speccy isn't a 48K machine - its 64K like C64 and CPC464 machines. Sinclair called it the 48K machine because - 0-16K ROM - unusable by programmer 16-24K Screen 24-64K RAM the screen and the usable RAM making up the '48K'. I dont know if the fact the speccy version (as all speccy games did) utilised specific address's for the screen would affect a conversion to the atari - I dont know enough about programming(the atari) but i'm sure there are people on this board who could give you more(better) info. For the record I would love to see Jet Pac on the Atari. Adam [ 02-01-2002: Message edited by: Fretwobbler ]
