Anyone ever beaten Time Lord for NES?

I got this game for Christmas like 12 years ago, and loved it. Of course, when I was 8, I didn't really have the eye-hand coordination to actually play any video game besides Pac Man (maybe I developed late). Anyway, I got to the second level (the old west), and got to the big bad boss guy at the end (I remember he was fat). I fought that guy for about 20 minutes, and beat the absolute crap out of him with every gun I had, and he still didn't die. I was pretty positive that I had done all I could to kill him. At the time, I just assumed that this game sucked hard balls and never played it again.

 

I recently (like a year ago) played it again, and the same thing happened. I've read walkthroughs and they never even mention anything about how to kill this guy, which means there is no trick! I've never been so frustrated. So now I suspect that there was some bug in the game or something, that made the fat guy invincible. Or I still really suck at this game (which is unlikely, I hope!).

 

Has anyone ever beat this game? Or had this problem before?

Me and my brothers had the same problem - get to the cowboy boss and beat the crap out of him forever, and nothin'. We gave up too.

 

But somewhat recently I think I read a faq or something that said that he just needs a bazillion hits or something.

 

Here's a snippet from the walkthrough at gamefaqs:

  Boss: Man in a Sombero:

 

  This is the boss fight that can make or break your game! The way to defeat

him is to stay behind him, shooting him rapidly with your pistol. And when he

turns to walk the other way, jump over and through him and shoot him in the

back. Keep doing this repeatedly. It might take you all the way to

April/May/June(!) to defeat him! I wish the game had boss meters! If you

can't beat him, I say give up now, 'cause the rest of the game isn't going to

be any easier!

 

* Note - using a Turbo controller, I made extremely short work of him!*

So make of that what you will. Looks like it just takes forever.

Good lord no. That game is interminable. We never made it past that boss either, though we played it every lunch our for a month in high school...
