GC controller, C-stick reads "up"?

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or are GC controllers more liable to get bogus "c stick constantly pressed up" readings than a lot of other systems? I try to make sure that the thing isn't being pressed at system startup, and it seems like sometimes the basic measures of plug/unplug controller and power cycling don't always fix it...any suggestions?

Another question is, and this applies to a lot of systems...what's the single best game to quickly boot and do a brief controller test? Smash Bros Melee, for instance, immediately shifts around when for the yellow stick at least, because of a weird feature where it changes the angle of the menus....

It's never happened on my GC sticks. My Dreamcast seems to do that once in a while but not my GC. Does it do it to all of your controllers or just 1?

My grey stick has gotten out of whack but never my C.

Good point. On my DC, I'm referring to the D stick since a DC doesn't have C stick.

For me the quickest way to test would be gamecube's own setup screens. You can move the 'setup cube' in all directions (except diagonal) with both analog and c-stick.

One of my GC controllers does that too. There is a certain button combo that you can press at the game cube start up screen that will reset the controller sticks, but I cant remember what it is.

It's holding Y, X, and start for a few seconds. You should notice it when it takes affect if the controller is causing significant "weird" things on your screen.

This is gonna sound stupid, but how do you store the controller? I had this problem briefly, and I noticed it was because when I wound the cord up, it was always pushing the C stick up, so it auto-centered on that position when I powered up the Cube.

I *think* I'm generally pretty careful to make sure all the buttons are at neutral at powerup...
