ATARIPITBULL #1 Posted May 5, 2005 I had been toying with the idea of making a nice display case for 2600 game boxes and I made one up today that holds 18 games, I think it took me a total of about 4 hours to do, but most of that time was in the sanding, staining and lining the inside with black vinyl, now I have planes of making a bigger one that can hold 50 boxes, but I used up all of my left over pine boards from another project, I also had some black Atari logo stickers left over from my Atari room. This can be mounted to a wall with screws through the 2 holes in the back, or you can use some L brackets, or what ever. For my next case, I am going to use silver stickers on the sides and I will paint the outer trim section, that is facing you, with Atari orange, then I will lay a coat of gloss all around the wood, to make it shine. So tell me, what do you think?
CPUWIZ #2 Posted May 5, 2005 Looks pretty cool, I am gonna use the non-watermarked images and sell that thing on eBay as vintage.
scogey #3 Posted May 5, 2005 wow...nice look. Are you going to leave the front open or have a glass or plexi door? How did you do the logo? looks great

Ralph3 #5 Posted May 5, 2005 Looks good! It kind of looks like you engraved the Atari logo in the sides. How about burning in the logo on your next one. There wasn't laser cut stickers like that years ago, the burn should look pretty good.

the 5th ghost #7 Posted May 5, 2005 Very nice work! Ahh, if only I had a box for my Cosmic Commuter, I'd finally have a complete boxed Activision collection! Looking forward to seeing that 50 box case
kencrisis #8 Posted May 5, 2005 I really like that black vinyl on the inside. How did you apply it?
moycon #9 Posted May 5, 2005 Actually you wouldn't NEED to add hinges to the glass. You could cut grooves in the top and bottom of the front of the box the length of the unit and have two pieces of glass that slid back and forth, kinda like the game display's at retail stores where they come over, unlock the glass and slide it one way or the other. Still you'd have to front some cash to custom make little glass doors., but you must admit it would be Shweeeeeeeeeeeeet. You could even etch the Atari logo in the glass! WOOO!! Still. I like em as is! Not a bad job at all, for such a flabby dude.

Philflound #11 Posted May 5, 2005 Personally I would see about designing a stencil and then spraying it on. Why keep paying for logos? Phil
ATARIPITBULL #12 Posted May 5, 2005 I really like that black vinyl on the inside. How did you apply it? 849808[/snapback] There just like stickers, only you have to peal them slowly so they don't lift off, but once down, they sticker very well. I should have the big 50 box display done, in about 2 weeks, I have to wait till my father-inlaw is back in town, he has a full size table saw that can handle the bigger wood needed. Hell, if the new cabinet works out, I will make more of them to sell here at Atariage, what do you think? :!:

I have seen some sticker frost techniques used on some of those (MANY) home remake/remodel shows.
ATARIPITBULL #16 Posted May 9, 2005 (edited) Fist off I would like to say " GOD DAM MY PIECE OF SH*T LOGITECH CAMERA " now it might be a little hard to see, but I painted the outer front edge of the box with Atari orange, like on the 2600 system and I put a nice coat of Polyurethane clear gloss all over the outside, which makes this box shine very nicely, what do you think? Now I have an idea for making shawdow boxes that only hold one box, the flat way of course, for those rare boxed games in your collection like Crazyclimber, Glib, Swordquest Waterworld and so on. My little shadow boxes will have silver Atari logo's on both sides, a slide out glass front and black vinyl on the inside back part, I am working on 8 of them right now and I am waiting for the glass company to make my 6 X 8 glass fronts and of course, what do you think about this idea? yuppicide #19 Posted May 10, 2005 Looks awesome! Good job. Looks like it might be hard to take the boxes out? You ever see those CD holders you push and they pop out?! That would be cool if you could do that.
BeerGnome #20 Posted May 10, 2005 Frosting the glassisn't as expensive as you may think.. you can get liquid etch at any craft store that handles stained glass and other glass painting stuff.. basickly you make a stencil, prefibly using a sticky backed vellum, and dab this goop on.. you wait about ten minutes, then wash the stuff off and bam etched glass! heres a link that has Etchall On it
