danwinslow #1 Posted May 5, 2005 Ok.....hardware lust grips me yet again....any opinions on what is the best video card out there currently? Cost is not really a factor. I mean, I don't want to drop 60k on a scientific visualization card thats more powerful than all the desktops in East Anglia put together...well, at least while they havent ported Duck Hunt yet. But I owuld like to get a kickbutt video card. Any ideas?
keilbaca #3 Posted May 5, 2005 6800 GT or Ultra. Either one overclocks nicely, most GT users OC to Ultra speeds very nicely, but if you want to really have some fun, get yourself an SLI motherboard, and 2 6800 GT's. If you are looking for a single video card, there is a brand new release geforce card, its a 6800 Ultra, but it has 512mb of ram. The thing costs a grand... Video #4 Posted May 7, 2005 I like my ATI 9200, sure there's faster, but it's awesome for a decent price.
Mr_8bit_16bit #5 Posted May 8, 2005 nVidia GeForce 4 MX!!! (just kidding) though it's the best video card I have in any of computers right now. (sad, huh?) One of my old computers still has a 3dFx Voodoo 3 2000 PCI in it... (remember those? hey, it was good for quake 2!) No, but seriously. I hear that for this generation of video cards, the ATI line is better than the nVidia line. Whatever happened to 3dFx anyway?

I hear that even on slower or uneven cards you can still get top performance.
Mr_8bit_16bit #10 Posted May 10, 2005 That island rendition of super mario bros is awesome. Wasn't the Voodoo 2 just the top thing in it's day? Revered more in it's day than any single of today's cards is today? That's what I thought I remembered anyway.
danwinslow #11 Posted May 10, 2005 SLI-enabled NVIDIA based cards. Such as? And whats SLI anyways...I am gathering its some kind of new dual card protocol but other than that I know nothing. Do you need special motherboard support for SLI?

Do you need special motherboard support for SLI? 852438[/snapback] SLI is 2 video cards working together as one. You better get a AMD Athlon FX-55 because as of today, even the most elite processors are bottlenecking the dual 6800 Ultra setup.
guitarmas #13 Posted May 10, 2005 Voodoo2 you say?? ::Sheesh:: I had the Voodoo banshee 16mb AGP 2x baby. It was nice for a PII 400. All I have now is a 64mb Geforce2 MX which does what it's job, I guess.
