Atari Corp and Activision games on 32-in-1

Recommended Posts

I'd like to open up a discussion on Atari corp. multicarts, things like the 32-in-1.

I read the HTML manual here and the bottom says this:

"Boxing, Checkers, Fishing, Fishing Derby, Freeway Chicken, Freeway Rabbit, Laser Blast, Skiing, and Stampede, are trademarks or registered trademarks of Activision Inc. All other games are trademarks or registered trademarks of Atari Corporation."

Did Atari really license these games for the 32-in-1 or did they just put that wording in there to try to protect themselves?

Does anyone know? This would have been during the Mediagenics era of Activision, rigt?

BTW, the artwork on the box cover is the worst I've ever seen on an Atari box. It has a picture of Mario and Luigi but Mario Brothers is not on the cart. I'm sure Nintendo would have been pleased that their icons were used without permission in this little bit of misleading advertising.

I'd go with the latter. I mean, seriously, Freeway Rabbit?!?
