8bitclassics #1 Posted May 9, 2005 Latest issue which I just received today has a Q&A in the back of Computer Power User Magazine with Nolan Bushnell. Talks about the 2600, Pong, and Chuck E. Cheese. Good read though short. It is the June 2005 issue. Corey
atarilovesyou #2 Posted May 10, 2005 ..somewhat related: I just watched the interviews with Nolan on the Atari Anthology PS2 game...I check it out every now and then and he seems like an all right guy. BUT! The other day I read an interview with him in this new old school video game price guide mag...can't recall the name of it!...but in it the interviewer said that Nolan demanded he be called "Mr. Bushnell"!..."..only my friends call me Nolan!", he said...now, this might be a joke, but that would be too funny if, in fact, NOLAN IS PURE, UNADULTERATED EVIL!!!!!!!!!!! ...ha, just kiddin'...BUT: ...have you checked out the old pics of Ol' Nol' WITHOUT his beard or stache??? >>>REMARKABLE RESEMBLENCE TO TED BUNDY!!!!!!!!!!! ....anybody else see the resemblence???....CREEPY!... ..honestly, though, ya gotta love the Nole! Spud #3 Posted May 10, 2005 I wonder what his net worth is these days. I'm not sure what he's been up to recently, last I read he had a company (can't remember the name) that was doing the trivia games for restarants. Lets see he got, what was it 24 Million for Atari back in the day? Backed a lot of start ups, some good, some that didn't pan out, sold Chuck E Cheese for ??? Any ideas of his worth? geosteve #5 Posted May 15, 2005 (edited) All those interviews on those 'Atari Anthology' games are actually the same ones included on the PC release Atari Arcade Hits 1 from Hasbro back in 1999, and again on the DC and PS1 game 'Atari Anniversary' a few years after most of the images are the same too Edited May 16, 2005 by geosteve
atarilovesyou #6 Posted May 15, 2005 I remember watching that interview on the PS1 atari collection...unfortunately, this new one for the PS2 doesn't include the other interviews on that disc, like the programmer from Tempest, Battlezone... ...unless they're hidden in the game...anybody know anything about this? mos6507 #7 Posted May 16, 2005 That's strange. I don't remember him being that way when I interviewed him. He was ultra casual. At one point he was walking around with a T-shirt and a bathing suit on. His wife was pretty casual too. I remember working with her on the catering and storing the cake. Of course, times were different back then. He was still living in a mansion in Woodside, CA. The classic gaming scene was still relatively young. It was before the CG Expo and before he was in such high demand as an interview subject. Or maybe that was just a really unusual situation I found myself in. After all, he was mostly entertaining his old friends and I was acting more as a fly on the wall like a reality show. I had a really positive experience during that shoot. I came away so impressed with him as a person that it's been very difficult reconciling that image against all the negative stories I've heard since then. I do have to admit I am not very impressed with uWink's offerings, though. I wish him luck, but they just aren't the type of games that appeal to Atari fans, I don't think, because of the touch-screen-only interface. I would hope that if he does start a Gameworks type operation that he stocks a wide range of games in there (including some classics) and not just the uWink terminals. Albert #8 Posted May 16, 2005 I spoke with Nolan for a few minutes at CES back in 2001, when he was there at the uWink booth. He even gave a presentation at that year's show at one of the booths that had a stage (don't remember the details now). He seemed like a pretty nice guy, but he may have simply had his "show face" on. I've attached a picture.
