Mame Monitor Mounting <-Unintentional Alliteration

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to build an ultra cheap and small Mame setup. I live in an apartment so An upright is out of the question. I am planning on building a tabletop machine. Not a true table top but somthing built into a coffee table.

My question is: Since I don't have the cash to shell out for a authentic arcade monitor is it safe to mount a PC monitor on its back with the screen facing up? And how would one go about doing this? Do you take it out of the case or what? Do you need brackets..etc.

I have done that with my MAME coctail machine and had no problems. Although I did have to cut out the bottom of my cabinet because it was a shallow cab and the moniter was pretty long.

Many businesses and hospitals(the greeting booth) had the moniters mounted that way and at an angle before we had these fancy LCD screens. It cleared up the desktop to make it look less cluttered.

Also, the air force takes computer tests. How it works, is that there is a piece of glass, and deep inside is the computer monitor, just about vertical, and they have been like that for a couple years now. No wear or problems with the monitors. I'm sure you'll be alright.

Plenty of folks mount PC monitors in that way for MAME projects. No problem at all. Worst case, you'll have to degausse it before you use it the first time.
