Cobra Commander #1 Posted May 21, 2005 So about 2 months back I come home with a big box of Intelly games (36, mostly all boxed with over lays) and I dont have time to test/play all of them, and they stay in the box. A day/week or whatever later I add some nes games and some Saturn games some one gave me, them a couple N64 games, next a PS1 title, last week RE outbreak for PS3, this week 2 DC titles. I look at the box every day and feel a little guilt for neglecting my hobby. I dont spend a crap load on my collection, about $50-$100 monthly sometimes a bit more if several good deals come all at once wich is how I got this box in the first place. Do you have the box? Some of you probably ave several. I think when I use a forklift to unload my games I'll get help.
mynameistom22000 #2 Posted May 21, 2005 I sometimes have a box...when I end up going on a thrifting/garage sailing spress and end up buying dozens of games, they get placed in a box, along with systems, controllers, and other things i need to test. Lately, I have actually caught up and tested all my games and systems, so I don't have a box right now, but once summer starts I am sure the backlog of games will add up and just be boxed for when I have time to play them all.. sega saturn x #3 Posted May 21, 2005 (edited) I have a few unopened or unplayed games but not in a box they just sit on the dinning room table for about a month. Edited May 22, 2005 by sega saturn x
christianscott27 #4 Posted May 22, 2005 haha i love having the box. i'm pretty fastidious about my collection, everything is in alphabetical order, check off on a list etc. so when i go out and find a couple of games i keep them in a pile somewhere and then keep adding to it until it reaches an amount that makes it worthwhile to file them into the system. like if i get a loose genny cart its going to go with the other 200 or so on the cassette racks. that means i have move almost every cart down a slot to keep the alphabetical order right, its not worth doing until i have at least 10 to add. my loose NES collection is like 600 games or something so i only update that when i do a major overhaul. then theres the notes i take, like "have, with box, no manual, good label" and the cleaning ritual. having a pile in the corner reminds me that i'm making good progress on my collecting goals, which is to add about one game per day. SteveW #5 Posted May 23, 2005 I don't have a box, I have a pile. Pretty much a heap. I'm not too organised. And I'm a severe clutterer. I've got a bunch of stuff in storage tubs, but my latest aquisitions are just piled up on the floor. I've got so much junk right now, it would take me days to clean it all up and organise it. And right now, with my terrible work schedule and lousy job sapping all my energy, I don't have the enthusiasm for it.
20eyes #6 Posted May 23, 2005 I have "the box", although my box has spilled over into many subsequent boxes in many different locations.
keilbaca #7 Posted May 23, 2005 I don't have "the box", but the only things I have in boxes are loose wires/controllers from my projects or just owning too many. I really need to clean that out so I can make room for the rest of my stuff...
joeybastard #8 Posted May 23, 2005 I have a pile too although it's dwindling. I usually try to play down the pile beofre I go aout and buy more games. With summer and garage sales, I'm sure the pile will grow again soon.
Bruce Tomlin #9 Posted May 23, 2005 I also use the "pile" method, then sort the games into the appropriate box for NES and Genesis. I don't have too many SNES, so I keep the loose ones in the living room and can just throw them at that particular pile as I bring them in. <-- "The Box"? Stingray #10 Posted May 23, 2005 I don't have a box. When I buy games I always shelve them with the other games that I have for that system. There are always plenty of games at any given time up on the shelves that I haven't gotten around to playing yet though. -S

That's why I pile it now.
n8littlefield #12 Posted May 23, 2005 I use photo storage boxes for my games, so I guess I have a box as well. I have one for NES, one for Genesis, one for SNES and one for controllers/cables. I don't collect the packaging/manuals/etc. so my boxes can hold quite a bit...but I'm just starting my collection - I'm sure the boxes will get too small soon (the NES one is already a tight fit). Mindfield #13 Posted May 23, 2005 I have "the box" and "the table." "The box" contains all my dupes -- stuff I'm selling or using for trade bait. "The table" is where I put all the stuff that still needs to be tested, sorted, categorized, compared, etc.

Are people just dumping their old stuff on you? Garage sales? It seems like I have to scrape and scrounge for every game I get. None of my thrifts ever have anything. Never any carts, anyway. We have a vintage game store but even the 2600 games start at $5.00 each...forget Nes, SNES, and N64. So, any new vintage games I get a hold of are ones that I've decided I want enough to pay at least $5 for each or that I've picked up off of Ebay with shipping for even more. So, the idea of running into piles and piles of old games that sit around waiting for me to try them out seems like a fantasy in my case. So, no, for me a box is not needed. Just a few gems trickling in here and there that end up with my organized games very quickly. I'm jealous.

I'm jealous. 862174 For me, it's probably 95% eBay, and the rest in places like the marketplace here. The main problem for me is that I have so many of the games that the ones I'm missing are getting to be few and far between -- and in most cases a bit on the spendy side. So, what I end up doing is buying up lots just for a few of the items in them. I do buy up singles here and there, but since there are increasingly fewer of those that I need it's rare that I'll come across a seller that has more than one or two -- and buying one or two off of a seller, unless it's a pricey item, tends not to really be worthwhile when you factor shipping into the equation. So ... I often end up with loads of stuff on "the table" to be tested, most of which will end up in "the box." :-) Edited May 26, 2005 by Mindfield
Cobra Commander #16 Posted May 26, 2005 My box is the result of having one or two games that I'm really into at the moment, so I dont have time to play all of the new/old ones. And I usualy wont play a game unless I can devote an hour or two (sometimes less for simpler games) to get a feel for the gameplay, and decide if I like it or not. For a while I was changing to a different console every week but I got to lazy/busy to do even that. I think I'll take over the spare bedroom and set up a few systems in there. My car is down for now so I havent been adding to much lately, meaby I can catch up.
hex65000 #17 Posted May 27, 2005 For me it's more of 'the stacks' than boxes. I keep stuff in boxes, but I'll attack a certain platform in an effort to get it worked down. I'm still on the 2600 stuff. I do try to keep the unprocessed stuff sorted out by platform though just so I can pick on a certain pile at a time. Gameboy stuff gets dealt with pretty fast, but other handheld stuff can sit for a while because I rarely deck those systems out. Systems that I dont have set up very often also get periodic attacks. My 5200 and Coleco piles are starting to get a bit too mighty for their own good. Once I do process the doubles out I'll just put those in a box for 'future trade bait' -- I keep telling myself that. and the keepers go in my collection. whee! Hex. SteveW #18 Posted May 27, 2005 I don't know how all of you have so many games coming in that you need boxes and tables to contain them all. Are people just dumping their old stuff on you? Garage sales? 862174 I don't buy or sell on eBay, my finds are the old fashioned kind, involving lots of footwork. On my days off, I've gotten into the habit of hitting thrifts. One day, sometime after noon, I'll hit the stores located in Irving, Texas. Then the next day off I'll hit the ones in Arlington, Texas. Sometimes I'll come home empty handed, but usually I can find at least one thing to pick up. It might be an old joystick, or it could be a boxless Genesis game. But it takes perseverance to keep going back. I don't find games all that often, especially Atari 2600 games. But I've found plenty of systems to keep me happy. A Vectrex, a couple Atari 5200s, some Pongs, a couple Genesis units, a couple Intellivisions, a Sega CD, a couple Dreamcasts, even rare consoles like a Telegames DINA (a Colecovision/Sega SG-1000 compatible) console. Joysticks and controllers for everything under the sun, old computers, all sorts of things. The thing is, if I didn't spend a couple hours combing through a dozen thrift stores every week, I wouldn't ever find these things. You have to get out there, and really pound the pavement. That's the hard part. It's really easy to get discouraged after finding jack squat trip after trip, but once you find something good, you'll get the urge to hunt down stuff more. Eventually, you'll start finding all sorts of cool stuff that you might have overlooked before. For example, check for baggies full of toys in thrifts. I was walking out of a store one day, and I looked at a bag, and noticed the Coleco logo inside. I looked closer, and there were 4 Colecovision carts inside. Right next to it, there was another bag. And another, with TI Home Computer carts mixed in. Since then, I've found a few more baggies in different stores with carts inside. The thing is, you have to keep looking. Make it a regular routine. guitarmas #19 Posted May 27, 2005 Can't really say I have a box. I have 2 shelves of many untested/unplayed Jaguar/Lynx/2600 games. I don't do much searching around for yardsales and such for games simply because there isn't much around here. I would like there to be, but there just isn't. holygrailvideogames.com #21 Posted May 28, 2005 Right now I have "the basement". I bought my house last year and didn't come with too much stuff. In less than 10 months I have managed to pack my basement with stuff. I have promised my wife that this summer I will sell off most of the extras. I have so much stuff right now that I don't even know where to start.

keilbaca #24 Posted May 29, 2005 Well, in that case, I have "the floor" as well. The floor is where I have my audio/video modded Atari 2600's for people that still need to go out, but is very hard to get out because of my schedule.
madmjennifer #25 Posted May 31, 2005 I don't have a box but my newest acquisitions usually sit on the table for awhile until I get around to cleaning them. Then they sit around for awhile longer after I test them but before I bag them. They're in orderly stacks though.
