Are there any good platform games for the c64, like Apogee's early pc games?

I'm familiar with a lot of good platform games for the C64, but don't know enough about the Apogee games you want them compared with. Could you just describe the essential gameplay elements you're interested in? Horizontal and vertical scrolling? Some shoot-em-up elements? Collecting stuff? Small puzzle solving? Power-ups?

You can download the shareware versions of all their old games on their website.

Jump and run, shoot-em-up, those kind of things.

Dino Eggs

Lode Runner

Jumpman

Jumpman Jr.

Bruce Lee

Conan

Zorro

Trolls & Tribulations (awesome!)

Ultimate Wizard

Impossible Mission

Tons of platformers....there are more good ones just too many to mention.

Yes, I agree with all these choices, and some more:

Nebulus (aka Tower Toppler)

Cyberdyne Warrior

Spelunker

Bubble Bobble

Mayhem in Monsterland

Creatures

Creatures II

Great Giana Sisters

Turrican

Turrican II

H.E.R.O.

Ghosts 'n Goblins

Rick Dangerous

These are all games I've spent a good amount of time with - I'm honestly not just listing every C64 platform game ever, because there would probably be hundreds then :)

A lot of the early Codemasters games like their "Dizzy" series are great platformers. "Rad Warrior" or "Antirad" is a good one. Some people won't agree, but I thought "McDonald Land" was a great NES like platformer back in the day.

Manic Miner was on the c64 and pretty close to the Speccy in terms of game play. Not as buggy as Jet Set Willy, its sequel.

Terry's Big Adventure is also a good one.

Monty On The Run

Willow Pattern

Monty for sure, but Willow Pattern is a lot more like Zelda or other overhead/maze arcade adventures. Unless you're refering to the kind of mini-game where you jump across the river avoiding the giant guys swinging their arms?

Good game anyway, but not really in the platform genre, imo.

Something similar to the original Duke Nukem would be awesome, and I'm pretty sure that the Commodore 64 could do something like it.

Miner 2049er, HERO, Heist, Montezumas Revenge etc. all very good!

My favorite Miner game though was on the CV for some reason. My favorite zuma was for the C64 but the 5200 version is almost exactly the same (as were the Atari computer versions I'm guessing).

Turrican 1 & 2 are probably your best bet.

I forgot to mention the most excellent freeware Metal Warrior 4 - Agents of Metal V1.1, and the rest of the Metal Warrior series. MW4 was just released last year - I've got #13 out of the special run of 30 boxed copies that was made.

http://covertbitops.c64.org/ - Click on "Games", it's near the bottom of the list.

Thing on a Spring was good and also Cauldron II which is hard but worth the effort.

The best game however by miles is Starquake (possibly the best C64 game)

What's the 3rd game?

Another long-time favourite of mine - Dr. Livingstone I Presume? However, it seems all the C64 versions/cracks I've ever located all crash at a fairly late stage. So I ended up playing the MSX version instead, and have almost completed it there.

Trying to fix the C64 version is on my long list of things to do... when I'm retired. Only 30 years to go!
