Help wanted, may even have $$ involved

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

As many of you know, I am a teacher. The math specialist in my school knows I am into classic games, and asked me for some help......and now I need to ask the real experts.

She has a lab full of Apple IIgs computers (I think that is the right number). She has to get rid of them this summer, and needs to keep the software that she uses. Can an emulator be used to run IIgs software? I dont care if it runs the emulator on Imac or PC platforum. We have both, but would prefer PC given the choice.

If so, does anyone here have the ability to get this data off of these floppy disks? There are 4 3 1/2 disks and about 17 5 1/4 floppys. I have a few apple drives here in my classroom. I am willing to give whoever can do this those drives if they would help get the data off.

If you know who I should contact, or you are interested, we may be able to pay you for your services. We teach a very limited english group of students, and these programs are the best ones out there. Although they are not flashy, they are easy for the students to understand.

Sorry if its not Atari, but you guys are the only ones I can ask.

Cassidy

Assuming you can't find an archived version (as Nukey Shay suggested) or anyone that has the old hardware, I think there's at least one alternative.

You can buy a device called a Catweasel that allows one to read disks from almost every computer ever released. It's basically a floppy disk controller that plugs into a PCI slot in a PC (or a Zorro2 slot in an Amiga). You can get software for Linux or Windows that should read that disk format.

I know this is probably a 'last resort' type thing, but if all else fails, you can get the data off the disks.

One way to get things off an Apple floppy is to use modem software and a null-modem cable to send everything over to a PC. I also found this utility:

This site talks about using it:

There is also a DOS tool called DISK2FDI that can read some Apple floppies directly.

Here's a site with Apple emulators:

I know Tempest is working with Apple II stuff and might be able to help.
