Mario Jump Trick

You probably already know this, but if you hold down the button when you jump in Mario Bros. Mario will actually stay in his jump position instead of landing, and he will hover about a pixel above the platform until you release the button. This trick helps me jump the gap between platforms on the middle level and jump to the top platform from the drop-down bar you appear on after you die.

Nice tip. It does make negotiating the gaps on the middle level a bit easier.
