garyp
Does anybody know of a list of common Atari 2600 hardware faults / problems and how to fix them? I have one Atari 2600 Jr with just white noise coming out of it instead of sound, and a Woody which seems to be completely dead.
Steppenwolffan21
Does the woody power on at all? What type of switcher is it? Give us some details
garyp
I've worked out the problem with the Jr. It requires two new capacitors in the sound stage. I've also fixed the Woddy's power problems, dry joint on the power switch, but it has another fault as well which is a bit trickier. It's a PAL six switcher by the way. It all works fine apart from some white artifacts that move up the screen. These appear as small 2 or 3 white lines that appear to move across the screen and up it. It does this even with the TIA removed out so I'm assuming it's some noise getting into the video stage some how. I thinking maybe some decoupling caps have gone, or the power supply and regulator are letting some ripple voltage into the system. Is that detailed enough? Do you or anyone else know which ones? I have a junior with the same problem.
